I am very on the fence about upgrading from a Pixel 8 to a Pixel 10 Pro, mostly for the much better camera. It's a good time: $300 sale, $250 tradein. Am I crazy? Talk me in or out of it. (I am firmly committed to Android and while I'm a little Samsung-curious, I've stuck with Pixel phones so far.)

Journalists turn in access badges, exit Pentagon rather than agree to new reporting rules
Journalists at the Pentagon turned in access badges and cleaned out their workspaces, the price for refusing to agree to new restrictions on their jobs at the seat of U.S. military power.

That’s the beauty of open source, there’s always someone out there, ready and willing to contribute to your project, who is wrong.

Trump's embrace of Russia's invasion of Ukraine is very bad news, some of the worst we've heard in the past four weeks since he became president. His announcement came with several big lies, like Ukraine started the war. And folks just shrug. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/w...

The generic male Facebook experience. Videos of a woman falling out of her dress and a male monkey masturbating. This kind of veiled sexuality is twisted and strange. I need to get myself on gay Facebook somehow. More vulgar, less fraught.

Sorry I don't post here, Mastodon is my regular. Thinking about automating crossposts from there to here. If you have a strong opinion either way let me know! (I guess bsky doesn't do polls?)

Pleased to announce a new #Jepsen report on Datomic Pro 1.0.7075. Datomic is an unusual system in many ways. Temporal! Immutable! Datalog! Strong Session Serializable*! We found that Datomic appears to offer Strong Session Serializable inter-transaction semantics, up to Strong Serializable when…

Hey everyone, I have a new small project: feditrends.com It's a link aggregator showing trending links across several major Fediverse instances. Mostly news, sometimes other things. Feditrends is originally by @ummjackson.com. I intend to tinker with it once I get a bit more experience.

Bluesky sure wants to show me stuff I'm not interested in. Still no way to turn off retweets, right? Also it shows me replies to people I don't follow, which shows me a regular stream of people I know scolding people being dumb. I don't need to see the dumb.

I don't think Bluesky is going to work for me until I can hide reposts. (I hide all reposts on Twitter and Mastodon already.)

Does Bluesky support Unicode in handles or is it ASCII only?

Hi, I'm new to Bluesky. And cranky about the username restrictions here. I wrote about this problem 11 years ago. www.somebits.com/weblog/tech/bad/us…
