Hourly Comic Day 2026.
At 6AM, Circe woke Ken up to go outside.
11AM, Ken wakes properly. He's sick, and has been since the storm a few days ago.
12PM, Circe hasn't returned, so it must be nice out.
12:30PM, Circe returns, not to leave again till nightfall.
1PM, Ken reads some classic Stan Lee and Jack Kirby Thor.
2PM, Ken catches up on drawing these comics, all while drinking some turmeric and ginger black tea.

3PM, Ken's gotta send his details to the Airbnb he's staying in while in Japan.
4PM, It's garbage time, but the cold air stings Ken's sinuses, almost as if he's drowning.
5PM, He watched Steven Universe whilst drawing.
6PM, He had spicy ramen with chicken chunks for dinner.
7PM, Ken muses on the romatasy books he's been listening too. Perhaps he is too asexual, but they are comically horny.
8PM, it's time for him to wind down with some Elden Ring: Nightreign. He still doesn't have a crew though.

9PM, Ken defeated a Nightlord in Elden Ring: Nightreign for the first time, and it seems that the real Nightreign starts here.
10PM, After an awful morning, Ken ended up being very productive by getting these comics done and finding things to do. Circe on the other hand, barely moved after one o'clock.
11PM, Of course, now he's been playing that game for hours while listening to wrestling podcasts.
12AM, Maybe he needed this. It was a lot less isolated making these comics as part of a community, and also people reaching our between posts, and he certainly got to relax. Alas, tomorrow, the struggle continues.

Incidentally, for 2024’s Hourly Comics Day, I started to make a comic about the history of Simone and Hourly Comics Day. But (ha ha) you know how it is with HCD sometimes — it gets away from you. Here’s as much as I made.

HOURLY COMIC DAY. A series of comics drawn in the style of Simone Veil. Hourly comic day is observed annually on February 1st. It was started in 2006 by webcomic artist Simone Veil. (Hey) she’s has come out as trans in the intervening year years, so she went by a different name in 2006. You may recognize her as the author of the webcomic pictures for sad children.

Her comics are simply drawn often black and while. Characters are usually heads and bodies with stick arms. This is me trying to imitate her style (kind of a pale imitation). Her comics often concern sadness and existential dread manifesting in strange and surreal ways.

In 2011, she held a kickstarter for a print compilation of pfsc. Funding greatly exceeded her expectations. In 2014x after struggling to fulfill the last of the orders and contending with a rising chorus of internet hate, she posted a video of her burning boxes of unshipped comics. Then she deleted her comic archives and vanished off th internet. But I digress.

On December 21, 2005, Simone Drew a comic every hour she was awake. When th day was over, she kept going. On January 25, 2006, she picked a day and invited other people to give it a try too. And they did.

January 26 2026.
As time is running out for Ken’s basic income, he’s been job hunting. Ideally he wants to stay in the arts sector. Storyboarding is a no brainer, but he’s realizing he’s gained a broader skill set over years of producing books. An editing job at a comic publisher is more than viable.
He has, however, been trying to get into the animation industry for years. When he was twelve, he said “I want to be a cartoonist”. What he meant was animator, but it’s funny how that worked out.
So this week, he took a long overdue trip to a friend’s animation studio. The weather was dreadful and have the people Ken knew weren’t even in, but it was good. Ken needed to be in that environment for a bit and talk to someone about it.
Ken: I always had the impression that getting your foot in the door was the hard part.
Mysterious figure: It’s true! Usually a studio would just fill an urgent position with an experienced hand.
Right now, Ken doesn’t know what magic formula he needs to follow for even a chance, but he works so hard for no money. Imagine what he could do in that environment.
