So today's day trip was to the Imperial War Museum North in Salford Quays (which now has its own tram stop). Some of the metal poppies from the Tower of London are there, as is an Enigma machine, a window from the World Trade Centre and a few tanks and planes.

FRIENDS OF SOWERBY BRIDGE RAILWAY STATION
The Sowerby Bridge Geese
Love them or hate them, the Sowerby Bridge Geese are a phenomenon, and in recent years have become synonymous with the town.
They have taken up residence and can usually be seen either on the Ryburn River, close by the Pool and Fitness Centre on Station Road,
or in the vicinity of the Sowerby Bridge Canal Basin. It is not unusual to see them crossing over the busy A58 road, sometimes at rush-
hour causing traffic tailbacks, and seemingly oblivious to potential injury from vehicles. Thankfully most drivers are patient and willingly
give way to this avian interruption. It is not clear as to when they first appeared in the town and the number present at any one time varies.
The Local Authority discourages them by putting a notice by the Station Road bridge saying, 'Please do not feed the birds", although
not everyone is deterred by this, and indeed most people welcome their presence and feel protective towards them. The Friends of
Sowerby Railway Station displayed the motifs, (seen here below), in July 2019 followed in August by a set of four goose statues positioned
in the Bronte Garden. Sadly, the statues were short-lived, falling victim to the vandals in January 2020. The town's affection and support
for the geese is obvious - some of them have been given names, and they have their very own Facebook page. In May 2017, the public
house at the junction of West Street and Water Street (previously called The Long Chimney') was reopened by the new owner under the
name 'The Loose Goose'. The Fire and Water's annual event, the 'Sowerby Bridge Winterlight Festival', featured a replica giant goose in
one of its recent parades and celebrations. The 'Friendly Animal Clinic' on Station Road operates a 'Goose Account' for their benefit and
receives regular donations. In 2018 the geese were the subject of news feature on Regional Television. We embrace them. Long may they
continue to brighten our lives and prosper.
DEFINITIONS - GOOSE - a large waterbird with a long neck, short legs, webbed feet and a short broad bill, GEESE - the plural of goose,
GANDER - a male goose, GOSLING - a. young goose, GAGGLE - a group or flock of geese when not flying. SKEIN - a flock of wild geese
(or swans, ducks) in flight, typically in a 'V' shaped formation.

I'm not a businessperson, but 'making it more difficult for your customers to pay you' doesn't seem like good business. (Although this is parking we're talking about, so presumably they WANT you to forget to pay and can then charge you over the odds for failing to pay)
