Henderson is awesome and Saka is having a phenomenal game! This is much more like it. Glad I tuned in despite the pointlessness of the playoff

My Nolan ranking is probably: Dunkirk, Memento, Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Odyssey, Prestige, Interstellar, Tenet, Following, Oppenheimer. I think I have seen Insomnia but can't remember it, hmm might rewatch.

It might grow on me. I've been wrong before on a first watch of a film. I will see it again in IMAX next weekend (as intended etc) and see if the full impact is greater!

100

I will add... this was not in IMAX. I am seeing it again in IMAX and maybe the big scenes will be more impactful and exciting when I can, like, actually see all of the shots.

Neil Williams @neillyneil.bsky.social · 05/07/2026

OK, so I just saw The Odyssey. It's epic and incredible in many ways and yet... I felt nothing. Not even excitement. It's so clinical, with entirely functional dialogue in that emotionless Tenet style, and even the set pieces seem flat (compared to, say, the tentpole moments in LOTR and GoT). 🤷‍♂️

01:00 feels quite a long time away. 03:00 even more so. 03:45 in a penalties scenario I'm 50/50 on staying up vs feeling human in tomorrow's Teams calls.

New post from me musing on football, Burnham, the crisis of hidden labour in digital work, Bad Services and better org design models. Or you can skip past all that and find a bunch of useful links and cultural highlights :) neilojwilliams.net/the-month-wi... #weeknote @weeknotes-bot.bsky.social

Looky here...Kristen Stewart loves BFI Player and has chosen 3 top picks from our catalogue. It'd be rude not to take a free trial and add them to your watchlist. player.bfi.org.uk/free/film/wa...

Enjoying the World Cup of footballs but could really do without having a Mr Brightside earworm injected into my brain every night

Hi, thanks. I will feed back to team and see if that can be improved in the current thing. Ultimately a rebuild is on the cards....

Hey, thanks. Will feed back and ask team what can be improved in the current thing. Ultimately a rebuild is on the cards ofc

Happy to take one for the team! Like I say it purports to be squarely in my niche so I feel compelled to try...!

Thought BACKROOMS was bloody excellent. Incredible production design. Uncanny like Lynch. Abstract like CUBE. Of the internet but absolutely a movie. Go out to a big screen for it!

I keep seeing people in black and white polka dots and wondering... do they not know about Angine de Poitrine, or are they a massive fan?

Neil Williams @neillyneil.bsky.social · 03/06/2026

I'm not sure what this says about Keir Starmer's Britain but when I leave metal out the front, it's taking *weeks* for scrap metal people to appear out of nowhere and scoop it up.

The bar is incredibly low, when it comes to imparting useful wisdom.

Neil Williams @neillyneil.bsky.social · 01/06/2026

This is partly a me thing. I need to remember that conferences are not a good match with my learning style. I feel like this every time. I can take a lot more content a lot faster than the pace at which people talk. And most talks have not been prepped well enough, let alone panel discussions...

Nearly done day 1 at SXSW London and would summarise every conference sesh I've attended so far as NON ESSENTIAL / coulda been a blog post / an AI answer. I am brutally culling the rest of my week's schedule.

Fixed it. But the slug will forever remember my mistake

Neil Williams @neillyneil.bsky.social · 28/05/2026

Back to work after a few days of half term videogames, DIY and garage clearance. A lot to squeeze in now in 2 days before SXSW London next week, which I'm hoping to haunt.

This new Health app Google just pushed to my phone (replacing fitbit) is a triumph so far. The UI is great, the proactive AI coach is a game changer, and suddenly my smart watch feels actually useful. I absolutely LOVE it. (And want to make something like this for film; or APIs for others to do so)

Neil Williams @neillyneil.bsky.social · 18/05/2026

OBSESSION (Curry Barker) is a 5/5 - I loved it! So good, so fun, rooted in universal truths and fears, a horror movie fan's horror movie. #horror #film #cinema

And yet .. the idea of sitting for a long time, savouring a cup, is appealing. I just don't see how it is possible.

Neil Williams @neillyneil.bsky.social · 14/05/2026
