These brilliant young people have been hanging out with me afterschool every Friday for the past three years and I don't know what the world would do without them.

We need Baylor to beat TCU in something (anything) this year. Charity bowl is probably our best bet. @edsbs.bsky.social

Just this week, three 2025 Michigan football schedule magnets were affixed to a dumpster in a random alley in downtown Waco, TX. Can only assume this is viral marketing for @shutdownfullcast.bsky.social and @newap-georgia.bsky.social charity bowl starting soon?

For 11 years as a university instructor, I've started each and every syllabus (and thus, each and every course) with the phrase: "The purpose of this course is to change the world". Today I was informed that I needed to remove it.
Text from an email reading: "Dr. Shanks,

Please remove, "The purpose of this course is to change the world” on your syllabi (all of them).

For 450
Change: Your group will choose a graphic novel that might fit a social studies class (4-12). By removing “might”.

On January 21 (and all other times), be sure you are not advocating and are not trying to make anyone feel shame or guilt, nor are students expected to hold certain beliefs for a grade."Continuation of email

Excited to have my first paper coauthored with an undergrad out in the world! If you've ever wondered about the critical affordances of teaching SS methods through econ and geo simultaneously, this paper is for you. Free link here and I'm always happy to share: www.tandfonline.com/eprint/DCXN9...

New pub! This collaboration with @neilgshanks.bsky.social and @lizmagill.bsky.social was driven by a shared desire to imagine economic inquiry that draws from students’ lives and experiences and disrupts the patriarchal assumptions in the neoclassical paradigm. Share with social studies teachers!

Isaiah 10:1-3
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
10 Woe to those who make iniquitous decrees,
    who write oppressive statutes,
2 to turn aside the needy from justice
and to rob the poor of my people of their right,
to make widows their spoil
    and to plunder orphans!
3 What will you do on the day of punishment,
in the calamity that will come from far away?
To whom will you flee for help,
and where will you leave your wealth,
