Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Hello All. Sorry for the lack of posting. My socials have been hard to deal with this week. 000

Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I decided to put "Dune" down for now and pick up "Dungeon Crawler Carl." I am only a couple of chapters in, and the author has an impressive imagination and great humor. 020
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I see your point. I tend to listen to the Authors' Guild. They have an AI policy that they recommend to authors. They even have a certification for human-written books. But there is a caveat: it is based on a trust and truthfulness system. The Guild says AI usage is okay, but under strict guidance. 100
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I think of a product like ProWritingAid, which states that they do not train on the content that they check. There are some features that they recommend disabling if there are any concerns about what the AI does do to help folks with anxiety about the amount of AI usage. 100
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I respect that but what about people that have a very tight budget and a human editor would be cost prohibitive for a first draft? I do not like AI in the writing industry, but avoiding it completely is very hard to do. I am genuinely open to ideas to stay away from the influence and theft of AI. 100
Reposted by Neil CampIndie Book Spotlight @bookspotlight.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I still blog and write long reviews. AI generated content can suck a cactus. 💅 38520
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I live close to Loudoun County in Northern Virginia, and seeing those monstrosities is very depressing. I can say for sure my power bill has been suffering because of the DCs. 010
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I see what you are saying, but is Grammarly that evil? It is super helpful with grammar. I understand that a lot of content is used to train LLMs behind the scenes. For grammar, spelling, and punctuation, what would you suggest if not Grammarly? 100
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 29/09/2026That's good, sticking to your standards. You should not change to make someone else happy. 010
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Scary AI stuff from the Authors Guild "Unsealed Briefs in Authors’ Case v. Microsoft/OpenAI: Top Execs Knew Their Mass Book Piracy Was Illegal And Would Put Authors Out of Work" #ai #piracy #authorsguild 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Is AI worth the theft, resource-hogging data centers, and hallucinations? #ai #datacenters 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I am ready for the weekend with more football and some reading sprinkled in. #football #amreading 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I am complaining so much about #Dune. I need to zip it and read it. 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026We are talking about over a billion (with a B) settlement with authors. OpenAI is next. For those in the writing industry, I strongly suggest you keep an eye on this, considering the battle over AI in original content. #ai #anthropic #piracy 001
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026"A Microsoft director calling AI scraping the “largest theft of labor in human history”" This is regarding the settlements over AI scraping of pirated content with the big AI players. I highly recommend reading about the recent settlement with Anthropic. 100
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I am on the mailing list for Jane Friedman. She has excellent articles on the publishing industry. Some of her content has spent some in-depth time on the rise of AI. I read her most recent email, and here is a quote that stood out 100
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I hate starting a book and not finishing it. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is a book that I just cannot finish. It is too boring to get through. Hemingway is supposed to be one of America's best authors. Is he, though? Dune might be next. 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026I decided to put "Red Rising" and "Too Big to Fail" on my hold list. "Red Rising" has 46 people in front of me. "Too Big to Fail" has far fewer people on the wait list. I want to sprinkle in some nonfiction every so often. 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 24/09/2026So far, "Dune" has been hard to read. I am not enjoying it, but I am going to give it a chance. Sometimes books take time to get going. #amreading #dune #scifi 010
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I just finished "Quicksilver." I hate to admit it, but I have to read the next book, "Brimstone." I do not like the romance part of "Quicksilver" at all, but the fantasy part of the book is fun, and it ended on a cliffhanger. I hate it when authors do that. I am going to read "Dune." 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I am going to start reading "Dune" by Frank Herbert at the same time as my current book. I did not realize it was a 6 book series. I thought it was 3. I will see if I am going to read the whole series after finishing the first book. #dune ##amreading link.amazon/B03NAjZ34link.amazonDune (Movie Tie-In): Herbert, Frank: 9780593640340: Amazon.com: BooksDune (Movie Tie-In) [Herbert, Frank] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 23/09/2026If I set aside all of the content I am not enjoying on #Quicksilver, I am really enjoying the fantasy story. It is getting action-packed. 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Sorry for not posting yesterday. I got busy with work and got lost in a book, so I lost track of time. 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Check out Bookbub. You can get a ton of free ebooks, mainly for Kindle. It is a great resource for new fiction with many different categories. 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I will never, ever read romantasy again. I enjoy the fantasy part of #Quicksilver but nothing else. I guess it is a guy thing. How cliché is that. Fantasy is fun, but I will stick to 1) Thrillers 2) Sci-Fi 3) Fantasy In that order #amreading 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Are generative AI images all that bad? I ask because, oh boy, they are everywhere. 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I have to admit I am a hypocrite. My profile banner is AI-generated. My profile pic is AI-generated from a real picture of one of my furry babies. I need to change the banner at a minimum. I am not sure where to get a nice, free banner. 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I go into fits and spurts between fiction and nonfiction. I have somewhat shelved my poetry reading. I wish I had more time during the day, but just like everyone, responsibilities are a priority, especially family. 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I am so torn. I LOVE football. I watch all day on Saturday and Sunday, and a little on Monday and Thursday. I will stay up for my team. This impacts my reading speed dramatically. I do not read at all on Saturday and Sunday. My goal of about a book a week on average becomes an issue. 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I am nervous about using AI too heavily when editing content. I see no issue with spelling and grammar. I see where editing could pose problems. When is it too much? I use #Grammarly and would want to use #ProWritingAid for a novel if I ever write one. #ai #genai 000
Neil Camp @neilcamp.bsky.social · 18/09/2026I finished "The Alchemist." I enjoyed the book. It had a very positive ending. I read it as: follow your dreams. It will be worth it in the end. I can see why the book sold over 150 million copies worldwide. It is a short but fun read. I recommend it. 000
