iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

I am on the mailing list for Jane Friedman. She has excellent articles on the publishing industry. Some of her content has spent some in-depth time on the rise of AI. I read her most recent email, and here is a quote that stood out

I hate starting a book and not finishing it. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is a book that I just cannot finish. It is too boring to get through. Hemingway is supposed to be one of America's best authors. Is he, though? Dune might be next.

I decided to put "Red Rising" and "Too Big to Fail" on my hold list. "Red Rising" has 46 people in front of me. "Too Big to Fail" has far fewer people on the wait list. I want to sprinkle in some nonfiction every so often.

So far, "Dune" has been hard to read. I am not enjoying it, but I am going to give it a chance. Sometimes books take time to get going. #amreading #dune #scifi

I just finished "Quicksilver." I hate to admit it, but I have to read the next book, "Brimstone." I do not like the romance part of "Quicksilver" at all, but the fantasy part of the book is fun, and it ended on a cliffhanger. I hate it when authors do that. I am going to read "Dune."

Dune (Movie Tie-In): Herbert, Frank: 9780593640340: Amazon.com: Books

I am going to start reading "Dune" by Frank Herbert at the same time as my current book. I did not realize it was a 6 book series. I thought it was 3. I will see if I am going to read the whole series after finishing the first book. #dune ##amreading link.amazon/B03NAjZ34

If I set aside all of the content I am not enjoying on #Quicksilver, I am really enjoying the fantasy story. It is getting action-packed.

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I got busy with work and got lost in a book, so I lost track of time.

Check out Bookbub. You can get a ton of free ebooks, mainly for Kindle. It is a great resource for new fiction with many different categories.

I will never, ever read romantasy again. I enjoy the fantasy part of #Quicksilver but nothing else. I guess it is a guy thing. How cliché is that. Fantasy is fun, but I will stick to 1) Thrillers 2) Sci-Fi 3) Fantasy In that order #amreading

Are generative AI images all that bad? I ask because, oh boy, they are everywhere.

000

I have to admit I am a hypocrite. My profile banner is AI-generated. My profile pic is AI-generated from a real picture of one of my furry babies. I need to change the banner at a minimum. I am not sure where to get a nice, free banner.

I go into fits and spurts between fiction and nonfiction. I have somewhat shelved my poetry reading. I wish I had more time during the day, but just like everyone, responsibilities are a priority, especially family.

I am so torn. I LOVE football. I watch all day on Saturday and Sunday, and a little on Monday and Thursday. I will stay up for my team. This impacts my reading speed dramatically. I do not read at all on Saturday and Sunday. My goal of about a book a week on average becomes an issue.

I am nervous about using AI too heavily when editing content. I see no issue with spelling and grammar. I see where editing could pose problems. When is it too much? I use #Grammarly and would want to use #ProWritingAid for a novel if I ever write one. #ai #genai

I finished "The Alchemist." I enjoyed the book. It had a very positive ending. I read it as: follow your dreams. It will be worth it in the end. I can see why the book sold over 150 million copies worldwide. It is a short but fun read. I recommend it.

I have mentioned it before, but people really do want human-written stories. They want the authenticity of a natural progression of a story. They do not want stories that steal content. These AI-driven stories have to be based on something, and it is usually stolen.

I am amazed at all the back-and-forth controversy around Generative AI. From the claims that it might kill humanity in a few years to the fact that there is so much slop out there. When it comes to writing, I will only read authentically human-written novels. #genai #ai
