At a breakfast buffet? I don't think so. At home because I'm utterly exhausted of wiping out dripping nose goblins? 100%.

I thought that was Brunelle's work. He's a cartoonist who writes great political satire and his art style is very distinctive. www.facebook.com/robert.w.bru...

It has been told to me, and it may even be true, that the mispronunciation of words because you have only seen them written is called "Calliope Syndrome" Logically enough, in the context of the name, it is pronounced "Callie-OPE".

Trump is now (claiming it's a joke) shopping around renaming the Atlantic and Pacific. Suggestions: Atlantic -> Slightly Too Small Ocean to Contain All the Mentions of Trump in the Epstein Files Pacific: Sufficiently Large Ocean to Contain All the Mentions of Trump in the Epstein Files

Waterbending an effective, if laborious, way to reduce shoreline erosion. Earthbending doesn't require the constant effort. But, as the article suggests, just letting things grow is best. So maybe she's plantbending.

Elon orbited a car with a dummy in a spacesuit, we can just do the same thing all over again with a different dummy. I'm sure the Cybertruck is capable of being used as a spacecraft... briefly.

Now, wait, he really wants to go to Mars and he has enough money to do it. I say we just let him. And let him make all the engineering decisions with no safeties. We can call it "Operation MarsGate MegaTitan". /s

About 110% certain that both the deal and his breaking of it profited him or his family (probably both) significantly, either through arranged Polymarket trades or payoffs. Kushner is involved, so I'm sure he is getting a real time feed of what actions would make the Trumps the most money.

Lately, a YouTuber who goes under the name "Kent Survival". Just casual, laid-back videos of an ordinary dude camping in the woods. Sometimes doing stupid things like making tents out of cardboard, sometimes testing new gear, sometimes just camping. Always chill vibes

We also left with a bag of breadsticks he insisted we take that was so big we had to freeze some. So, I don't remember your name, but I would really like to have you as a waiter again!

I had one who gleefully stated that Olive Garden was frozen mass-produced swill. I'm sure he didn't remain a waiter there much longer, but he did do his best to make up for the terrible food by adding criminal amounts of grated cheese and doing heavy pours of wine, so he got a big tip. LOL

I never met a waiter that was actually happy to be an Olive Garden waiter. The last thing they would ever be concerned about is whether or not a Pasta Pass was somehow stolen. When i heard him say this, I thought he was making a bad joke. Then I realized he believes it.

To be fair, it took him very little time to make us an embarrassment and a country well on its way to being dead thanks to his asinine flurry of excremental... I mean executive orders. This may be the first time he's actually told the truth on record ever.

Had he said "unlimited pasta", it would have been correct (still not relevant, but correct). Apparently Olive Garden was finding that people were sharing unlimited pasta membership cards (and to be fair one college dorm doing that could end them) so they require photo ID to use it now.

I've noticed that even after repeatedly blocking both Fox and NewsMax this story keeps getting pushing in my feed on Book of Faces under both sources, so there's some money changing hands at Meta to make sure this narrative gets a lot of eyeballs.

For your backup plan you'll need some sort of batteries. You can get battery packs that can take solar panels when needed (EcoFlow, Bluetti, and many others make them) that can't backfeed.

In the event of a power failure these (by definition) have to shut down. If they are still energized when the power is out it runs the risk of back feeding energy to places where it's not expected.

I believe they've dropped a bit here, hence the inclusion of "or even dropped a bit". The main point was that they haven't increased in the last month, so an increase in sales dollars means an actual increase in the quantity sold. Just not by as much as they should be as we start tourism season.

Nate from Maine @neight.bsky.social · 17/06/2026
Trump's war has increased gas prices by 25% over last year as per GasBuddy. But month to month gas prices have remained pretty steady or even dropped a bit, so this likely shows a tiny increase in gas sales by volume. Granted there's usually a bigger bump in June as tourists start driving more.

Collins only votes against the party on things where her vote doesn't count (obvious win or loss). This is how she cosplays as an "independent centrist".

Algae has been an issue in the reflecting pool from day one though warming due to climate change has not helped matters. It's a shallow pool filled with untreated water. Painting the bottom dark only made it slightly worse. But Trump's buds got $14 million so mission accomplished, I guess? For him.

They are heavy, true, but still easier to move around and install than a window unit. Once in place near a window, you are just putting a lightweight hose in a window for AC and taking it out for fresh air. They aren't a panacea for sure - they are just an easier option in some circumstances.

Except "boycattle" is not an actual word and "goycattle" most definitely is a known slur. So the chances of typoing a nonexistent word into a known slur are ... very very very low.

Yeah, it's easy with a pellet stove since when it's not running it's all a closed loop that doesn't invite much air movement. I think they make woodstoves with a draft intake hose, but since pellet stoves are usually vented through walls, I have a wall *right there* to run an intake duct through.
010
Nate from Maine @neight.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Ductless minisplits solve the "difficult" if not the "$" issue since they only require a small hole or two. I use mine for heat in winter (down to -15F/-26C, but I do add BTUs with a pellet stove) and cool in summer (up to 100F/38C). They are a few thousand USD so not cheap but not hideously $$.

Nate from Maine @neight.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
Yeah, the two-hose units are MUCH more efficient - sucking conditioned room air and adding heat and moisture to it before you exhaust it (thereby forcing the room to draw in outside air to replace that air) is not a great design. See also my pellet stove without an outdoor fresh air intake, LOL.

Portable ACs (as opposed to window units) are very inefficient and kinda awful, but they are very easy to install and require no heavy lifting, making installing them accessible for a lot more people. Not everyone, to be sure, but a great many more.

Here's the thing, though. A lot of MAGA is still boycotting Bud Light over the Mulvaney partnership. So, no, I'm not a fan of "sex in a canoe" (*) beer, but it does make MAGA angry and that's worth something. (*) It's called this because, like sex in a canoe, Bud is f*cking close to water.

Pull your lips off Trump's flabby ass and maybe you can recover a scrap of a legacy, Cornyn. If you work really hard, you might get "in the end he wasn't a complete waste of resources" on your unisex-urinal headstone.

The great thing about solar is you install it once and it generates electricity for over 20 years with almost no additional effort and virtually no pollution. The not great thing is that's only happening a fraction of the day. That's where storage of some kind will be extremely useful.
121
Nate from Maine @neight.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
NOTE: Obviously "the reverse of that" is not intended as an absolute. As demand and supply (from multiple sources) both rise and fall at different times of day, EVs would make a good supplement to other storage technologies, whether it be fixed-place batteries, melting sodium, moving water, etc.
062
Nate from Maine @neight.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
With enough solar, it may actually turn into the reverse of that. Plug in at work during the day to charge up the car, plug in at home at night to help feed the grid when the sun goes down.

There is a very clear, straight path here to having ChatGPT look up credit card information for some poor sap who is dumb enough to trust ChatGPT with *their* payment information and buying stuff using their credit card. Invest in popcorn and don't trust the clankers with your credit card data!

Nate from Maine @neight.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
Where AI is involved, I wouldn't trust opt-outs anyway. LLMs are very bad at following strict rules and are very good at finding ways around them or simply ignoring them.
020
Nate from Maine @neight.bsky.social · 11/06/2026
In theory, this is opt-in. If you don't trust ChatGPT with your credit card, don't give ChatGPT your credit card. AI is good at breaking boundaries so definitely don't put CC info places ChatGPT has access to. Best idea is to just not give ChatGPT access to anything (ie. don't use it at all)

Yes, in my travels to Montreal over the years the vast majority hear one word of my absolutely pathetic High School French from like 40 years ago, chuckle, and switch to perfect English. Which in some ways is a shame because I want to practice, but I don't want to waste their time and patience.
