Thorn apple (Datura stramonium), known as jimson weed in the US, sprouting in my back garden, north Cornwall. Family Solanaceae, and packed with toxic alkaloids. It can seed rather prolifically, so I removed it. @bsbibotany.bsky.social #wildflowerhour

It’s the annual village sports day, but never mind that; thanks to the heads up from @davidcollard.bsky.social for recommending ‘The Restraint of Beasts’ by Magnus Mills. Mordant, filthy & nasty, but it’ll leave you tickled.

Strauss (R) tonight, who I've come to increasingly appreciate over the years. My Dad was very much a Strauss (J, Jr) fan, didn't care much for the other fellow, but I have him to thank for exposing me to classical music from a very young age.

I suspect she'd approve of L.J.K. She was a fine, formidable woman, with a love of literature and cats. Hated television though, and forbade it from the house. Grandpa Kit reached an arrangement by hiding one in his wardrobe and watching it there.

The Andante is Mahler's most powerfully beautiful piece IMO. Has me in bits without fail. Far more so than that other movement, which gets played _all the time_.
