"The Analytical Engine has no pretensions whatever to originate any thing. It can do whatever we know how to order it to perform. It [cannot] anticipat[e] any analytical relations or truths. Its province is to assist us in making available what we are already acquainted with." — Ada Lovelace, 1843
From Note G, p. 722

It is desirable to guard against the possibility of exag-
gerated ideas that might arise as to the powers of the Ana-
lytical Engine. In considering any new subject, there is
frequently a tendency, first, to overrate what we find to be
already interesting or remarkable; and, secondly, by a sort
of natural reaction, to undervalue the true state of the case,
when we do discover that our notions have surpassed those
that were really tenable.

order it to perform. It can follow analysis; but it has no
power of anticipating any analytical relations or truths. Its

ready acquainted with. This it is calculated to effect pri-
marily and chiefly of course, through its executive

the relations and the nature of many subjects in that sci-
ence are necessarily thrown into new lights, and more pro- |
foundly investigated. This is a decidedly indirect, and a
somewhat speculative, consequence of such an invention. |
It is however pretty evident, on general principles, that in |
devising for mathematical truths a new form in which to |
record and throw themselves out for actual use, views are |
likely to be induced, which should again react on the more |
theoretical phase of the subject. There are in all exten- |
sions of human power, or additions to human knowledge, |
various collateral influences, beside the main and primary |
object attained. |

Happy #BreadDay to all who celebrate! 🏺 #OnThisDay - 19 April - someone in #Pompeii felt so excited that they just had to record that: "XIII K(alendas) Maias panem feci" (CIL IV 8972) 'On April 19, I made bread' Wonder how it turned out? 🤔 Image: National Archaeological Museum, Naples (84596)
Preserved Roman bread (panis quadratus), a circular loaf divided into 8 portions, bearing an inscription stamp.

My linocut shows 2 blue mussel. The blue mussel (Mytilus edulis), or common mussel, is a medium-sized edible marine bivalve mollusc in the family Mytilidae. They are aptly called common mussels and are found on temperate beaches worldwide. 🧵
As described, my linocut shows two blue mussel shells in blue and black ink on 8” x 8” Japanese paper. Numbered 9/12. Titled ‘Blue Mussels.’ Signed Ele Willoughby

In the latest Artemis 2 Images, I noticed crater chains near Mare Orientale, do any moon people know if these are truly chains, if so, are they due to tidally disrupted objects like Shoemaker–Levy 9 or secondary ejecta raining down from a larger impact? images.nasa.gov/details/art002e012278
