Ovens can be quite expensive to run. Plenty of meals are cheaper to make using a microwave or an air fryer. They use less electricity because they are smaller appliances, cook the food faster and don’t need to preheat.

Heat can be lost from your hot water tank quite quickly, meaning it has to use more energy to get back to the correct temperature. Insulating your hot water tank can prevent unnecessary heat loss.

Ventilation will allow moisture-filled air to escape and be replaced with fresh air. Make sure vents and airbricks are not covered or blocked, use extractor fans and open windows when possible.

Mould can be dangerous. Activities like cooking, showering or bathing can mean excess moisture in the air. If possible, leave windows open and extractor fans to run for about 20 minutes after to clear steam.

Living in a cold home can damage developing lungs. Children growing up in cold and damp homes are more likely to develop long-term conditions or shorter illnesses like bronchitis.
