Our review on language networks and neuromodulation is finally out! 🎉 We propose the Interacting Language Network (ILN), arguing that neuromodulation for language disorders should target distributed networks rather than isolated regions. doi.org/10.1016/j.ne...

New preprint 🧠🗣️ We recorded intracranial activity while people told stories freely. The brain commits to sentence structure early: syntactic depth and core categories (nouns, verbs) are encoded ~1s before articulation, while adjectives and adverbs are specified only ~0.5s out. Check it out!

Cortico-hippocampal dynamics of hierarchical syntactic planning in natural speech production
The human brain must rapidly construct hierarchical structures to organize complex sequential behavior, yet the neural dynamics supporting this process during natural behavior remain poorly understood...

Exciting new preprint from our lab! We find evidence that the human medial temporal lobe encodes letter pairs using a distinct population of neurons, separate from those encoding individual letters. doi.org/10.64898/202...

Aligning statistical models with inference goals in the neuroscience of language: A dual-dependency taxonomy
Abstract. Language unfolds over time and across multiple representational levels, from acoustics to meaning. Neural systems must, therefore, integrate temporal with representational structure, linking...

Phase of firing does not reflect temporal order in sequence memory of humans and recurrent neural networks - Nature Neuroscience
The temporal order of events in working memory is thought to be reflected by ordered neuronal firing at different phases. Here the authors show that this is not the case and that phase order is linked...

I feel that the auditory research community has either not arrived here yet or is not very well connected. Please let me know who to add to this starter pack and self-nominate. 🧪 go.bsky.app/2V3D2mu
