🤔What is Jammertest? Every September, the airwaves of the Arctic island of Andøya become some of the most heavily attacked in the world. Norwegian authorities launch jamming and spoofing attacks for participants to test satellite navigation tech, identify weaknesses and develop stronger solutions.

Every year, Norwegian authorities create realistic jamming and spoofing scenarios that allow participants to test how their technology performs under pressure. Jammertest is an invaluable resource for the satellite navigation community, including the European Space Agency.

🗺️ 📍 We’ve come to trust maps without question. But maps can lie. Over the past week, we’ve watched ourselves disappear from the map, only to reappear out at sea. In reality, we never left Andøya, a Norwegian island that hosts the world's largest open campaign for GNSS resilience: Jammertest.

The upcoming service, in combination with the already available Open Service Navigation Message Authentication (OSNMA), will allow receivers to detect and reject a wide range of spoofing attacks. OSNMA and SAS will be free to access and available worldwide. Read more: lnkd.in/e9QBAfqJ

🆕 Galileo achieves first position fix using encrypted Signal Authentication Service (SAS) signals. At #Jammertest, test signals from five operational satellites enabled a receiver to establish its location under spoofing conditions, unlocking a new level of protection against interference.

To make sure we can trust the blue dot, ESA continuously works to strengthen the resilience of European navigation systems. And that is also why ESA is taking part in Jammertest, helping develop systems and technologies that are even more robust. 🔵 📸: ESA/JensenMedia AS

ESA Navigation @navigation.esa.int · 16/09/2026
🔵 In a meaconing attack, instead of fake signals, real signals from a nearby location are rebroadcast. Again, there is a blue dot but not where it is supposed to be.
140
ESA Navigation @navigation.esa.int · 16/09/2026
🔵 With spoofing, the blue dot is still there, but it is in the wrong place. False signals trick the receiver into calculating an incorrect location.
130
ESA Navigation @navigation.esa.int · 16/09/2026
🔵 Jamming occurs when a powerful signal floods a receiver, drowning out the real satellite signal. The receiver can't calculate a position, so the blue dot turns grey and disappears.
130
ESA Navigation @navigation.esa.int · 16/09/2026
Everyday, countless people rely on the little blue dot 🔵 in their navigation app to get them safely to their destination. But what happens when that dot disappears or leads us astray? Satellite navigation can be disrupted in several ways ⬇️
