Physicalists should disagree with this statement since on their view my pain, my experiences of red, sweetness, etc., are identical to certain publicly observable neural states of affairs, thus there is nothing categorically private about experience. In principle we can see it sitting there.

@rovelli.bsky.social "The false “hard problem of consciousness” assumes upfront that there exists a metaphysical gap between mind and body." Not so. The hard problem is why only certain neural processes and not others are identical to or somehow entail sensory qualities like red, pain. Your answer?

Right, on naturalism there is nothing that allows an agent to transcend its material basis such that it could have done otherwise in actual situations. We're causal operators, just not uncaused causers, and the same will go for artificial agents.

Quick and dirty argument against phenomenal causation: If the feel of pain is identical to its NCC, the feel per se doesn't add to their causal power. If the feel *isn't* identical, there's no good story about how it adds causal power. The feel is real, but not a causal contributor. Questions?

Yeah the illusionists like @keithfrankish.bsky.social following Dennett also claim that resistance to physicalism is driven by a lamentable need to be a special, non-physical being. Attraction to phenomenal realism is a akin to a character flaw since science obviously can't accommodate qualities.
