The Shell www.artic.edu/artworks/29253
In the 17th century, seashells became popular collectible objects because they were considered rare and exotic. They also became common subjects for still-life paintings known as Vanitas, which symbolically represent the transience of life. The etchings of both Wenceslaus Hollar and Rembrandt van Rijn could represent the simultaneous beauty and fragility of existence. While still lifes in general are exceedingly rare in Rembrandt’s work, Hollar’s etching (1996.609) comes from a series of seashells, consisting of 38 plates. Rembrandt’s shell could have been inspired by Hollar’s work, though Rembrandt’s decision to render the shell in a three-dimensional space represents a marked difference between the two etchings.

I’m sharing this blue insect for #BlueMonday. It was drinking water in the forest. 🦋🍃 Alpaine Black Swallowtail (Papilio maackii, ミヤマカラスアゲハ) Japan, August 2019. #BlueBugs
A large black swallowtail is drinking water from a puddle on the ground. The wings are covered with many scales and shine beautifully in turquoise and sky blue. Each triangular forewing has a black oval spot and thin black lines. The undersides of the hindwings have narrow white and light blue lines and small red, white, and purple spots. (Probably, male summer type.)

My lifelong dream of seeing Waxwings was finally realised in February this year when a small flock visited Brandon Marsh while I was there. It took a while to track them down, and a few minutes after I found them they flew off. But then they returned, and wow! 🤩 #PlumeScrolling #Birds #UKWildlife 🌿
A European Waxwing perched on a near horizontal Hawthorn twig, with other lichen-covered twigs around the bird. The Waxwing is perched with his or her back towards us, but with the head turned to the left. The Waxing is a plump bird, with plumage mostly grey and pale brown in colour; the head, where the brown plumage has a reddish tint, has a prominent tuft on top, a thick black eye-stripe, a black throat patch, and a short, black beak; the short tail has black, yellow-tipped feathers; and the wing have black, white and yellow markings plus, in one spot, about six red feather tips that look a little like sealing wax.

Yesterday, I went to two art museums thanks to one of my best friends, who loves Taro Okamoto. It was really good to learn why Amemiya has been making apple sculptures for over twenty years and to have a touching VR experience. Yosuke Anemiya Exhibition #WATARI-UM www.watarium.co.jp/en/exhibitio...
A medium-sized green apple is melting at the bottom of its side. The apple's top is red and looks delicious, like a real apple. The melting part is as if the apple is sticking its tongue out, saying, "Yum!"There are four wooden sculptures of melting apples on the desk. They show a part of the process of his sculpture, I think.A long shot of the installation. Multiple lights hang from the ceiling, and a video image is shown on the tall wall.
