I made this Pride flag using only NASA images and our team thought it would be cool to share on social (I work on the NASA heliophysics communications team), but it's getting all sorts of hate on the bird app and Fbook. Thought y'all might be more appreciative of it here. ☺️🏳️‍🌈💖
A pride flag with every color band represented by a NASA image. White is Earth clouds, pink is aurora, blue is the Sun in a specific wavelength, brown is Jupiter clouds, black is the Hubble deep field, red is the top of sprites, orange is a Mars crater, yellow is the surface of Io, green is a lake with algae, blue is Neptune, and purple is the Crab Nebula in a specific wavelength.

Did you see the story about Milo Miles? He's in gay adult films, so agents interrogated him excruciatingly thoroughly at the airport, and then threw a 10-year ban on him coming to the United States, based on the type of content he makes and a vibe that he might engage in prostitution... no evidence.

Stop Censoring Science & History at Our National Parks
The Trump administration's Department of the Interior is forcing the removal or censoring of national parks exhibits that share factually accurate and relevant U.S. history and scientific knowledge. This campaign has escalated in recent weeks. The Trump administration has issued directives to National Park Service staff to remove many exhibits across the country, including ones that discuss the history of slavery and enslaved people, civil rights, the treatment of Indigenous peoples, and...

I say this with every bit of nuance that I can muster: Dr. Nadia Schadlow, a 2018 security advisor to Trump, is the least illuminating guest I can recall @ezraklein.bsky.social ever interviewing. The only thing to be gleaned from listening is that she lacks any semblance of intellectual integrity.

Nadia Schadlow is completely disingenuous in this conversation. It’s practically Orwellian. She wants me to believe that “flexible“ can include doing exactly the opposite of what Trump firmly committed to in every public utterance while running for office? I call bullshit.

Limits are not the same as detriments, and her viewpoint is largely untenable in any administration but one whose actions she supports. While using bipartisan hypocrisy to wave away the legal concern of executive overreach, she fails to affirmatively support her own position. Where is the rigor?

Engaging with Dr. Schadlow’s ideas after she revealed her complete lack of intellectual honesty and integrity is an exercise in adoxography. We would get just as much knowledge reading about war as a fine art as we would engaging with her nihilistic view of the global security apparatus.

Truly one of the most mind-numbingly absurd interviews on national security that I’ve heard. However, I do not afford her the same “out” of ignorance that many do. She can be an intellectual, but she completely lacks intellectual honesty and integrity. She misapplies her knowledge and that’s worse.

Senate Republicans abdicate Constitutional responsibility in an effort to avoid accountability for war and human loss. I’ve been thinking about Drift a lot lately, and how Rachel Maddow (@maddow.bsky.social) covered the history of expanding, unchecked military control for presidents by Congress.

Why are we arresting journalists for covering protests? This might seem like our new status quo with freedom of [insert foundational right here] being treated as a privilege, but this is an escalation. When journalists are arrested, we lose insight into what happens around us. It’s unacceptable.
Minnesota live updates New York Times headline states “Don Lemon is among several more arrested over church protest.” There is a picture of Lemon at the demonstration holding a microphone. The first section of the article reads, “The former CNN anchor and three others were arrested on charges related to a protest this month in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Attorney General Pam Bondi said. Protest were beginning in Minneapolis against the Trump administration‘s immigration crackdown.”

This is a bid for nuance and reason. Demand more of your network/friend group/audience than simple stories and even simpler solutions. Have your catchy hook but keep your substance, too. We do not need complexity to show consideration and care in what ideas we spread and how we spread them. ✌️

I worry about the means of determining complicity. I know that there ought to be consequences, which is why the legislation appeals to me, but I would want something very circumscribed, because there’s also a risk of setting even more race-to-the-bottom precedents. Of course, the goal is worthwhile.

Companies would likely need to contract with other countries, too, assuming that government contracts make up sizable chunks of their income and need to be replaced given their ineligibility. That may not bode well for national security. I’m open to see legislation for this idea; I’m just concerned.

Companies are made up of workers and unless there are federal contractors to be found with no redeeming qualities, I think throwing out the potential to have their goods and services might compromise the quality of what’s available to our country. C-suite accountability makes sense to me.

One of those policy positions that sounds good in theory, but I worry seriously about its implementation. Are you using “aiding and abetting” in terms of tried and convicted for actual crimes or vindictive economic revenge for having federal contracts that we oppose? I like targeted accountability.

Representative Garbarino needs to get to work along with the rest of his Republican colleagues. Not getting your way while holding so much power is NO REASON to hold government hostage. They refuse to negotiate. They refuse to show up at all. They are not entitled to—so they must earn—their seats.

Election strategies do not matter if Democrats are not presenting an alternative. As a New York resident, I could have had two Republican Senators on March 14th, and the votes and non-effort to amend the bill would have been indistinguishable from what Senators Schumer and Gillibrand did [clip: NYT]
New York Times excerpt: "Some Democrats, including Representatives Jake Auchincloss of Massachusetts and Haley Stevens of Michigan, refrained from openly criticizing Mr. Schumer’s shift. They said Democratic infighting after the bill’s passage would only emphasize the divisions within the party. They warned that it would also draw voters’ attention away from Trump trade policies that have dampened the stock market and imbued uncertainty into the broader economy — developments that Democrats said could play to their advantage."

Justifications for this relate to Constitutionality or permissibility within statutes, but what we need to address is the kind of country we want to be. Speech is not a right granted by any government to any person. When governments recognize rights it is to prevent themselves from violating them.

It guarantees the preservation of nothing the Senator purported to save. Democrats offer limp answers to even the most threatening propositions. It’s giving ✨complicity✨ The fact that 37/45 Democrats voted no means 1 out of every 5 voted yes—less “opposition” more “playing hard to get” party.

Junior Republican Senate Whip Chuck Schumer miscalculated gravely signing the execution order for Government Programs… to ensure that no one would UNLAWFULLY kill Government Programs. Now that the funding has legislative approval, discontent with cuts will be shared and Trump actions legitimized.

It’s really, really hard for me to take this as a good faith argument. How are you going to save the government by co-signing the law to dismantle it? Stop obeying in advance and stand up for the funding that matters. The miscalculation and malpractice are indistinguishable from collusion.

Exactly, if we lower Congressional pay, counterintuitively, only independently wealthy Congress people can afford to hold office—forget running. This is because of the costs associated with having places to stay at home and in DC. The rich can absorb excess costs, like an unpaid internship.

Representatives need to represent their districts. That’s the job. When they choose to depart from representing and stand on personal values, they ought to be able to justify those actions to their constituents as well. Representative Garbarino has not been representing me, so I want to hear why.

If “Politics is for Power” taught me anything, it’s that we can learn more from a politics of doing than a politics of consuming. Lowering barriers to and increasing opportunities for participation are core to civic education. It is practical and teaches political topologies by their navigation.

I understand that judicial interference in a dismissal, especially forcing prosecution against the interest of a prosecutor is exceedingly rare, but these are also exceedingly rare times with singular opportunities to stop the backsliding of the rule of law and the authority of courts.
