Guest speaker at St Helen and St Katharine this week - joining students from secondary schools I created a workshop/game based on a hypothetical council with £1B to spend, but with difficult budget decisions to make... Big thanks to all, and all power to the OX14 Learning Partnership 💪

💧 Last month I wrote a blog asking you to consider that flooding might be a bit more complicated than “blocked drains” and a lazy council. I also promised to come back with something practical. So here it is. Less polemical, more practical. 👇 cllrdrnathanley.substack.com/p/what-you-c...

Honestly my life is about to get a lot more miserable these next few years Mid terms is gonna be a nice moment of catharsis in November. But it can't undo this

Honestly, I'm starting to wonder how *any* other party will be able to compete with this level of corruption, and such loose finance regulation That postal vote letter Farage sends us every year full of lies? Expect more of that Against the 'elites', fighting for the little guy? Yeah, right

Visited Marcham Road Hospital this morning and saw the newly refurbished Abingdon EMU with Emma Leaver, COO at Oxford Health £1.1m from NHS England for same-day urgent care that keeps people out of the JR overnight Also saw the stroke rehab unit, podiatry and MIU. Brilliant staff.

Despite a Police and Crime Commissioner for the wider region who works against us, @oxfordshirecc.bsky.social is being brave and leading the way on road safety in 2026

It's that time of the year again Taking a short break from the internet — genuinely knackered and in need of a proper switch-off Something tells me we might need that energy over the next 12 months.... Thank you for the kindness and civility as ever 🧡 See you soon

🚧 £4m extra just approved to fix Oxfordshire's broken gullies - taking total investment to £9.42m over 2 years Now they've been cleared, the extra money is going into to fix the collapsed and broken structures where needed High-risk areas are now being cleaned annually, up from once every 4 years

🗺️ The Minister who signed off the "Greater Oxford" boundary grab was sacked days later. Look at the shape - it's a gerrymander, reaching for villages that have nothing to do with the city (but cutting us out?) I'd rather keep Oxfordshire whole. Please sign & share: www.oxonld.uk/lgr

A “day off” work today for Full Council at County Hall, but plenty of local chasing too: play park vandalism, Austin Place tree, speed signs, verges, library cooling, Boulter Drive parking, cycling links, noise cameras, EV chargers, NCN5 and Lodge Hill. I’ll keep nudging.

I spotted this X3 on the Vineyard, Abingdon last weekend It turns out to be a nice little milestone 🚌⚡ Electric buses are now used on the X3, especially at weekends and for part-day running We already have the 35, but it’s good to see electric buses appearing more often on the X3 too

We've had a new Zebra Crossing installed after much lobbying and effort At the same time, working with officers, when repainting lines after resurfacing we've removed the 0.75m advisory cycle lanes and replaced with wider lanes and large symbols where space dictates

Pleased to see my new Zebra Crossing go in by Larkmead / St Helen and St Katharine School, Abingdon It felt like applying took nearly as long as 22 years between premier league titles!

A break from the usual - away for work somewhere a bit warmer this past week 🌞 Back in town now - and no place like home I’m quickly readjusting to streets without tram tracks running down the middle, or brass instruments being played loudly every few yards (though I wouldn't say no to either....)

Looks like we're definitely going to end up with the 'Greater Oxford' Model. If that's how it ends can they *please* tidy up some of these loose ends?

As someone trying to practise 'learned optimism' this is hard to deal with The next few years are going to be VERY bad for 99% of us People are going to suffer. We're all going to get poorer; and politics will become more populist as a result ☹️

P.s. my long term dream is to find a site locally where we can emulate what they have in Faringdon for regular cycle training I fear this would be a multi year endeavour and probably wait until post local government reorganization!

Great to see funding confirmed to fully resurface the Barrow Hills BMX track Abingdon 🚴 The Vale’s 2026/27 budget now includes funding to completely resurface the track (£100K), allowing the site to reopen Barrow Hills is a free, open-access facility and getting it back into use will be great news
