Danielle Smith and the UCP didn’t bother consulting Albertans before rolling out the red carpet for foreign billionaires to build massive AI data centres. Now, Albertans are raising serious concerns. And the UCP still doesn’t have a plan to address them. 🤯 /1

After consulting with thousands of Albertans, Alberta's New Democrats are calling for an immediate pause on approvals for new AI data centre projects until a robust impact assessment framework, one Albertans can have confidence in, is in place. Today, we released our AI Data Centre Blueprint. /1

“When it comes to Danielle Smith’s rubber-stamping of AI data centres, Albertans have serious concerns about what these projects will do to our power and heating bills as well as the impacts to our air, land and water. /2

“Albertans won’t be fooled by the UCP’s town halls because the premier has already decided AI data centres are going ahead whether residents want them or not. Alberta’s New Democrats believe major projects must be in the best interest of, and supported by, Albertans.” #abtech #abpoli #datacentres

Danielle Smith and the UCP are putting Silicon Valley billionaires ahead of Albertans. Albertans have legitimate questions about AI data centres, and they deserve to be heard. The Alberta NDP is listening. /1

Let’s start with first principles: Albertans’ interests must always come first. And we won’t let any mega corporation take advantage of our land, water, and resources. There needs to be a thoughtful conversation about the government’s approach to AI data centres. (1/2)

Albertans are working hard, but too many are falling behind. 💸 While the cost of groceries, gas, and monthly bills keeps rising, Alberta now has the lowest minimum wage in Canada. It’s time to put more money back in workers’ pockets. /1

This is a wake-up call. 48% of Calgary Chamber businesses say they may leave Alberta if separation moves forward - and 63% already feel the negative effects. The cost? Up to 175,000 jobs and a $62B economic hit. /1

This is the most serious data breach in Alberta’s history. A confirmed fact: The premier’s own staff were in the room when separatists disclosed the personal data of former Premier Jason Kenney and other Albertans. Danielle Smith feigning ignorance of the leak just doesn’t cut it.

The UCP is using unfair tactics to win the next election. Today, they will introduce Government Motion 37, which will effectively allow UCP MLAs to draw electoral maps for the next election. UCP-drawn maps would disenfranchise both rural and urban voters. /1

The UCP is letting Kevin O’Leary’s AI Data Center skip its standard environmental impact assessment— despite being built in a municipality facing emergency drought conditions. Why does the Premier have one set of rules for Albertans and another set of rules for her friends? #abpoli #ableg #abtech

Once again, the UCP shows how out of touch they are with the needs of Alberta students. Their amendments to the Education Act will do nothing to improve classroom conditions. Rather, they are playing politics at the expense of actually improving education. #ableg #abed #abpoli
