Bold sounds from a really great label. This is an anthology that will have me going deeper with many of these artists.

Feeling nostalgic for Yellow, a club in Tokyo where I fell in love with house music. A friend, who was worried about the emotional valence of the music I was listening to, got me house music-curious. Without question, it was a music intervention that made me a happier person and improved my life.

This morning I gave a characteristically dire online talk about fascism. Then, depressed by the lake, I saw crows and seagulls (who usually hate each other) flock together to repel a huge hawk. And I saw a clumsy toddler plant a sapling in the stump of a storm-felled tree. And for just a moment...

Having a Statehood for D.C. yard sign when I lived in DC was cool (❤️ Takoma DC ❤️) but statehood is going to require support from places that already have representation. Don't live in D.C.? Get one of these signs and make sure your members are on board with S. 51 and H.R. 51.! #DCStatehood

Baking an apple pie for my sweetie's birthday and the recipe webpage I'm working from just served up this ad. This is where your crust and filling come together!
Screenshot of a Flavor365 webpage showing "The Assembly and Baking Process" for a pie. Immediately below is a picture of two mice curled up asleep (?) in a bowl next to the text, "Fast Way To Get Rid Of Mice (2026). The recipe resumes as follows, "This is where your crust and filling come together. Work with confidence! You've done the prep, and now it's time for the final performance."

In Facebook Ad Settings, you can see what categories advertisers use to target you. Today the categories seem fairly broad and bland but they used to be pretty specific. At one point I was targeted by an interest in goats.
Interest Categories: Removing yourself from an interest category prevents advertisers from reaching you by indicating that their ads should be shown to people in that specific interest category. It doesn't affect the number of ads you see overall. We may still show you ads related to these categories if we thing these ads may be relevant to you. [List of categories next to a "remove" button.] NPR, Animal welfare, Cattle, Animal, Animal Sanctuary, Library, Goat.

Awesome article on moral psychology, agency, and status in animals. Rowlands's Can Animals Be Moral?, within a few pages, forever altered my intuitions around whether other animals can do things for moral reasons. It's terrain that we've barely begun to explore and this article is a great intro.

William Orbit really knew how to build a song. At a time when a lot of music in the genre was just samples that sounded cool on a loop, Orbit developed ideas that went somewhere. Cool loops are great but Orbit invited you to listen carefully and nod. Outstanding craft. tidal.com/album/232164...
