There was a notorious professional football case in Australia 12 years ago where the club called all the players together for a ‘truth meeting’ before letting them speak to police. The club was ‘shocked’ at the suggestion this was so they could make sure everyone told the same story. 🙄

Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School (fabulous sapphic YA romance), Light from Uncommon Stars (sci-fi fantasyish with sapphic relationships), The Stars Too Fondly (sci-fi sapphic romance), Atmosphere (lesbian astronauts). If you also read mm my absolute favourite series is Freya Marske’s Last Binding

Probably Mara. She’s the most marginalised and least likely to gaf about institutions (though formal schooling was never available). She’s deaf in a world where there aren’t accommodations or supports for her except her sibling and she’s often treated as if she were incapable. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️

Extremely queernormative! Although the rising influence of a religious cult in Cylia is bringing some hostility. In Lok and Sathe, queerness is normal; in Anathlenor, no assumptions are made about gender or sexuality, and kids are encouraged to experiment and figure things out. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️

Elyan is demisexual panromantic; Rathaliel is bisexual biromantic. She’s had significant relationships with two women and one man. Elyan has slept with countless people of different genders but only been attracted to two, a cis woman and a genderfluid/agender person. 🌈✒️ 🌈💜 📚 🌶️ # #queerprompts

Coming out isn’t a thing as the world is largely queer-normative, but tattoos are an important part of culture and are usually done to mark significant events and/or identity. E.g. starting an apprenticeship, acquiring a skill, significant relationship, birth of a child, death etc. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️

When 99% of people think of terrorists they think of perpetrators of mass violence. Governments increasingly seem to be weaponising it to mean ‘saying things against a regime we like’ and carting grandparents with signs off to prison as if they were inspiring terror in the population.

At a lowlander beach, unless it’s overcast Elyan would be under an umbrella and/or wearing a hat and long sleeves as he does not enjoy turning into a tomato. He loves wading in the shallows on an overcast day in Mist or Cold. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️ #queerprompts

I love sword dance! I enjoyed One Night in Boukos though not nearly as much, as I didn’t realise there would be a heteromance as the blurb really did not make it clear! I have Something human on my physical TBR as well.

Won’t get it and will take her word for them being opaque or informal or whatever she wants to spin them as. And I doubt VERY much that she actually read his oeuvre like she pretends - she probably just skimmed the start of a few chapters and picked out some quotes that fit her narrative.

Work whatever hours of the day or night you want as long as you get stuff done, have endless variety of tasks - how completely unsuited to the neurodivergent. Stock also picks out sentences and quirks that absolutely unremarkable in academic work, because she’s writing for an audience she assumes

One of my friends said years ago that everyone in academia is on the spectrum, and I thought she was making a somewhat ableist joke. Fast forward ten years and our entire academic circle has been diagnosed with ADHD/AuDHD… I mean, a job where you can hyper fixate on your special interest,

That’s exactly the problem - marketing trying to hook an audience (any audience) rather than useful genre labels and no one agreeing on what it means. That is the whole purpose of genre! To give frameworks of meaning to texts. If the it isn’t defined it can’t do that and isn’t really a genre.

That’s a really interesting designation! I don’t know that I have a word for it either, but I know what you mean. I tend to think of cosy as not likely to invoke unpleasant emotions or sustained tension. Legends and Lattes is quintessential cosy to me (including the shop! lol).

Nat Lawless 🌈🦄 @nat-lawless.bsky.social · 09/08/2026
It often doesn’t mean no sex! And I’m fine with that. But I read one labelled cosy where the LI SAs the MC, who then worries about what he (the MC) did wrong, and it’s never explained or shown to be wrong. And later the LI basically allows someone else to beat up the MC and is all ‘whoopsies, soz’

Nat Lawless 🌈🦄 @nat-lawless.bsky.social · 09/08/2026
Genres are also becoming meaningless (don’t get me started on ‘cosy’ - it absolutely means nothing other than someone once found it comforting and/or there’s some kind of shop involved).

And let’s stop devaluing everything that’s associated with women while we’re at it! Because that’s where all this is coming from. Romance = women’s writing = bad (sim with YA) so they make all women’s writing out to be romance and/or YA and be extra snide about it.

Imre is a telepathic black and white cat who adopted Niv as a kitten. He doesn’t speak directly to anyone but her unless he needs something. Most animals are telepathic &/or empathic (much higher % than humans) though they don’t all communicate with humans. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️ 🌈💜 📚🌶️ #queerprompts

Elyan wants to be liked, though is perpetually convinced that people don’t actually like him and only hang around him because he’s useful, so he has friends but thinks he just has a lot of acquaintances. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️ #queerprompts

My library keeps judging me when I reserve books: ‘you’ve borrowed this title before’. I’m aware, that’s why I’m borrowing it again! Fave new to me this month were Taylor Jenkins Read’s Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and Alexis Hall’s Father Material. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈💜 📚🌶️🌈

I think there’s a disconnect (not just with students) between what people think is acceptable for themselves to use v. What they think other people should use. So they think it’s fine for themselves to use it to write whatever but don’t want teachers/lawyers/creators to use it. And there’s good

Nat Lawless 🌈🦄 @nat-lawless.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
Yep, most students use it to some extent. A lot don’t see any issue with using it to generate whole assignments. There’s a lot of hypocrisy as they get outraged if they suspect their lecturers of using AI to help mark their assignments or generate teaching materials, but think they can use it
220
Nat Lawless 🌈🦄 @nat-lawless.bsky.social · 03/07/2026
All thinking people should be. It’s hypocritical of authors to expect to be paid for their work and then steal from designers, and it’s unethical to use AI instead of writing things yourself because it’s all based on theft from actual creatives who have the talent and took the time to develop craft.
