I LOVED Lesbiana’s Guide to Catholic School! Others I enjoyed for #SapphicSeptember: Leah on the Offbeat. Some Girls Do, and Upright Women Wanted and Late Bloomer. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈💜 📚 🌶️

Probably Mara. She’s the most marginalised and least likely to gaf about institutions (though formal schooling was never available). She’s deaf in a world where there aren’t accommodations or supports for her except her sibling and she’s often treated as if she were incapable. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️

Extremely queernormative! Although the rising influence of a religious cult in Cylia is bringing some hostility. In Lok and Sathe, queerness is normal; in Anathlenor, no assumptions are made about gender or sexuality, and kids are encouraged to experiment and figure things out. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️

Elyan is demisexual panromantic; Rathaliel is bisexual biromantic. She’s had significant relationships with two women and one man. Elyan has slept with countless people of different genders but only been attracted to two, a cis woman and a genderfluid/agender person. 🌈✒️ 🌈💜 📚 🌶️ # #queerprompts

Coming out isn’t a thing as the world is largely queer-normative, but tattoos are an important part of culture and are usually done to mark significant events and/or identity. E.g. starting an apprenticeship, acquiring a skill, significant relationship, birth of a child, death etc. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️

At a lowlander beach, unless it’s overcast Elyan would be under an umbrella and/or wearing a hat and long sleeves as he does not enjoy turning into a tomato. He loves wading in the shallows on an overcast day in Mist or Cold. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️ #queerprompts

Trauma is kind of a main theme - Elyan (childhood) and Rathaliel (young adulthood) especially have a lot of past trauma they haven’t dealt with, and they and Niv acquire some more as they go along. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️

There aren’t gendered associations with pink but Rathaliel pretty much only wears black and maybe a bit of midnight blue or royal purple and always something she can fight in. Her lip would curl in disgust at the idea of her wearing something as bright as pink. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️ #queerprompts

Elyan hates birthdays and has forgotten when his is (and exactly how old he is). He’ll happily celebrate other people’s though tends to forget they exist as well. He is forcibly reminded of his own in book 2 and is faced with the prospect of nonconsensual ‘celebrations’. 📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️

Fathers are largely absent - Rathaliel and Elyan are estranged and Niv doesn’t see her family much now she’s with the travelling players. Elyan is extremely anti-violence and has never intentionally harmed another living being. Rathaliel would be outraged at the idea she might hurt someone by accident - if she hits you or sticks a weapon in you it will definitely be on purpose. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️ #queerprompts

Mostly not as it’s largely queer-normative, although Elyan’s gender identity is culturally and linguistically specific and as he’s not telling anyone about his cultural background either, he finds it easier to just accept he/him. But he doesn’t get to explain later on! 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️ #queerprompts

Read this book - you will not regret it! Felix is a trans teen figuring out who he is as a person, an artist, a best friend, a son, wanting to love and be loved but not knowing where to look. CN for transphobia & queer phobia, but there’s trans and queer joy and community too. 5⭐️ 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️🌈💜

Elyan doesn’t remember his ma, who died when he was young. Niv’s died about 4 years before the story starts, so she’s still grieving. Rathaliel sort of has two (sadly not in a queer way), but is estranged from both. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️ #queerprompts

Elyan ends up a reluctant informal teacher of magic, which he finds really hard since he had to figure out new ways to do things after his magic was damaged, so it’s largely instinctive. Niv has a musician apprentice she’s teaching, though it’s a bit ad hoc. 🌈📚💙 🪐📚 🌈🚀💫 🌈✒️ #queerprompts
