I'd argue the bigger issue still is getting the 40 to 45% of the population that doesn't participate educated and involved and speak their voice. Especially the education part. Plato and Socrates were correct about democracy blind spots. We're about suffer much longer than just one term for it.

I think there is a mandate, but not in that way. All about context. Given that roughly 40% of voting aged people didn't even vote, and enough of the Dem's target demo flipped their vote or didn't vote at all, I think it speaks clearly. Change is wanted. Dems need to make it tangible to vote for.
