Black History Month: The Photographers Who Documented a Movement
In honor of Black History Month, it's time to recall the photographers who have been instrumental in documenting and influencing the African American narratives. The photographic community and beyond have been forever changed by the groundbreaking efforts of Gordon Parks, James Van Der Zee, Kwame Brathwaite, Stanley Wolfson, Carl Van Vechten, and many others who have captured critical times and portraying the African American experience, challenging societal norms, and fostering a greater understanding of Black identity and history.

When political violence makes headlines, it’s tempting to respond in the moment by posting, commenting, and sharing. But what we say and how we say it matters deeply because political violence isn’t just a policy issue, it's a narrative issue.

For AAPI History Month, we’re asking: What would it take to move beyond the Model Minority Myth—and toward a Model Majority? Narratives shape what people believe about power, possibility, and belonging. The Model Minority Myth has done deep harm, divided communities, and erased histories.
Three people sit close together at an outdoor restaurant table, smiling at the camera. Plates of food and glasses of wine and water are in front of them. The person on the left wears a Beerlao shirt and beanie, the person in the middle wears a light blue shirt, and the person on the right wears a cream-colored sweater. Behind them is a colorful mural and a wooden wall. The mood is warm and joyful.

In moments of crisis, an important question emerges: Who's caring for our most vulnerable communities? In our latest blog, Zakyree Wallace spotlights how communities are shifting the story on healthcare—from scarcity & exclusion to abundance & power. www.narrativeinitiative.org/blog-meeting...
Illustration of two hands held together, tinted in black and purple, with a stethoscope resting across the palms. Abstract geometric shapes overlay the image, with subtle starburst accents. Text reads: “Meeting Crisis with Community: Reimagining & Advancing Health Equity. Zakyree Wallace shares three narratives used to organize, mobilize, and expand access to care.
