Curious why leading a media frenzy resulting in a man’s death isn’t considered enough to constitute a “clear threat of lasting and substantial harm” by these people.
We commend Petra De Sutter, Rector of Ghent University, for her statement to the Belgian newspaper De Morgen, that "As a university, we have a responsibility to create space for debate, but also to ensure an environment where people feel heard and respected."

We agree that creating space for debate is an essential element of a university, and that space for debate should not be closed unless this is a last resort to prevent a clear threat of lasting substantial harm.

this is the problem with seeing technology as the only possible solution for systemic problems and being prone to reactionary carceral thinking. there is plenty of evidence that changes to infrastructure (e.g. extending curbs at intersections and adding medians etc) reduce risks to pedestrians.

What are we even doing here? I’m going to us AI to filter your application out based on key words but if you use AI to customize your application to the job posting it’s a bad look.
In today's competitive job market, it's safe to say your resume is being scanned, not read, by hiring managers and recruiters.
With hundreds of applications being received per open role, employers spend an average of just 11.2 seconds on each resume, according to a study done by AI-powered interview platform InterviewPal. While this number varies from company to company, the reality is that in today's artificial intelligence world, the decision to move a candidate forward is sometimes shaped by AI tools that filter applications before a human even sees it. Therefore, one small mistake or missed opportunity can easily cost a candidate the chance to advance.
Forbes spoke to a few recruiters and workplace experts about what they actually look for in those first few seconds of scanning your resume
- and how you can increase your chances of moving to the next round. While AI has its benefits, Rathod and Green agree that relying on it too much when applying for jobs can do more harm than good. In fact, 67% of hiring managers say AI-generated resumes have negatively impacted the hiring process because there's been a surge of applicants using the tool to fabricate or embellish their experiences, and there's been an increase in applications that all look the same.
"What I'm seeing is a lot of people going to Al, pulling the raw feedback they receive and not customizing it," says Green. She adds that
"putting in a cookie-cutter Al merged resume from the job description is really doing yourself a discredit."
Rather than submitting a generic resume, Green and Rathom advise candidates to personalize their documents so recruiters notice right away their unique capabilities.

beat all the kids to the sledding hill by going in the middle of the night
A layer of untouched white snow covers the field of a small neighborhood park and dusts the trees. The sky is almost the same color of the snow.

I know I shouldn’t be surprised but this is insane.
Does the world need more oil from Venezuela? An article in the New York Times by Stanley Reed. How would U.S. refineries benefit from more Venezuelan oil?

Refineries equipped to handle heavy Venezuelan crude would likely prosper, Mr. Chowdhury said. Venezuelan crude would probably flow to the United States, assuming that Washington lifts its restrictions.

Mr. Chowdhury said that U.S. refiners might be able to pass along discounts of up to 30 percent compared with what S&P Global Energy figures refiners in countries like China, Malaysia and India have paid Venezuela for its oil.

These U.S. refineries, which are concentrated on the Gulf Coast, would also be able to extract more gasoline and diesel from the crude, increasing supply and putting downward pressure on prices.

“You could have some lower pricing there, right there at the pump,” Mr. Chowdhury said.

Wait this just keeps getting better. Why would you defend Musk by comparing him to a colonial mass murderer? This is supposed to be pro Musk?
