A very interesting point to bring up to AI bros: "If you can’t say “genocide” on any of the major platforms, yet those are the ones all of the Big AI tools used as their training data... well, then the AI tools sure aren’t very likely to know much about genocide, are they?" via @anildash.com

my kid’s contribution was an article about whether you should be polite to AI and one of the kids from this debate said “I am not polite to AI. I do not like to use AI.”

I love the 12 year old’s school newspaper, there’s always something good, like this debate between two kids about whether chocolate or vanilla ice cream is better
(Kid name), you might think that chocolate is better than vanilla, but your evidence is irrelevant. First, chocolate's
"more developed" and "more flavourful taste" makes it very bitter, and some people don't like it. Vanilla is sweeter and less bitter. Second, vanilla does have some flavour but it isn't as harsh as chocolate's.

(Kid name), chocolate is not bitter, it has a rich flavor. One reason chocolate is better than vanilla is because with chocolate they work on the taste more than vanilla. For vanilla they just toss it into a bowl and give it to them. With chocolate they get melted milk and put chocolate into it to make it more flavorful.

I guarantee that if I called my friend Robin and said “are those Bugles I smell?” she’d remember good old Dustin

we were sharing a sleeping bag on the floor of his friend’s dorm room and he was raving about stone temple pilots and the more he talked the more I thought “what the fuck am I doing here, why am I in this situation”
160
nanette @nanette.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
fun fact: “he likes stone temple pilots” was a contributing factor when I broke up with a guy I’d been seeing in early 1993. that said, my memories of him involve his comments about the smell of Bugles and a spot on-impression of Mr. Horse from Ren and Stimpy so it wasn’t like this was going to last

this is central Illinois erasure and I’m not having it the horseshoe was invented in SPRINGFIELD, not Chicago. I never experienced the joy of the horseshoe until I moved to central Illinois
Place hot meat (any type), crisp french fries, and a drizzle of cheese sauce on toast, and you have a horseshoe sandwich, created by a Chicago chef and his wife in 1928.

A’ja is awesome! last season, the Illinois women’s basketball team found out she was in Chicago and invited her to come to Champaign for a game and she did! I thought that was an incredibly cool thing for her to do.

anyway there’s a video of me drunkenly singing “Frank Mills” before we went to a terrible party at one of the off-campus houses named after a type of cheap, shitty beer (probably “the Icehouse”). a guy from the previous semester’s human sexuality class tried to hit on me in the kitchen…

my hair was freshly dyed and looking cool even though my hands, forehead, and ears were purple. Robin had swiped a bottle of Chianti from an Italian restaurant in Florida but we didn’t have a corkscrew so we improvised and the cork fell in the bottle (we called it “cork wine”)

I finally got my hands on some purple manic panic hair dye over the break, and now that I was free from the scrutiny of my parents, I dyed my hair purple…not knowing that I should wear gloves and put Vaseline around my hairline to prevent staining

listening to it’s a shame about Ray by the lemonheads and it reminds me of January 1993. I had just moved in with Robin—it was our first night back after winter break. this was our dorm room circa March or April (check out the boognish head on the window)
