Had a bad review, then I panicked and stopped writing. I took a week off, read a few books on writing. Then sketched out a new outline, made some research and I'm back writing again. To move forward, you just need to mov back a bit. #writing #blackwriter #fantasty #afro

I think that's always a question for each writer but fantasy doesn't require dark elements or tone. There is cozy fantasy which is, well cozy and light. There are plenty of great fantasy stories without dark elements and featuring pleasant characters.

This can or cannot include horror elements but typically would include some amount of blood and deaths and various abuses. Take farther are subgenres like grimdark, which are particularly disturbing and bleak. Doesn't have to be horror but could include some elements of it. 5/

As for dark fantasy, my opinion is that it can include aspect of horror it doesn't have to. I think it is more about the tone of the story. Is it one where good conquers evil? Or is it one with morally gray characters and no clear triumph of what is right and just. 4/

My opinion is that they are different. Low fantasy is a different world that is alike to earth but with a few fantastical elements. Magical realism would take place on earth but one that has surreal elements mixed in. I think there are also stylistic differences between the two. 1/

A beta reader said my dialogue sounds unnatural. First of all, I'm here to rant. Secondly, not a native English speaker. That's how we talk in Naija, so it's pretty natural to me. Thirdly, it's fantasy, the weirder the better. Do I lose the authenticity, just to be understood? #writers#blackwriter
