beginning his evening complaint the cat wants supper #DailyHaikuPrompt, beginning Today's #senryu (or #haiku?) simply describes my mundane life . . . probably because I have spent a productive day on syllabi and course websites, both unpoetic activities, but satisfying to sort out.

This world has an underworld (be it spread out in space or in soul). Which means that to this underworld our world is its heaven. #talkingtomyselflettingyoulisten

Simply aching. And, strangely, full of hope. (From @naihiwet.bsky.social's new collection of poems, "Moonful".)

What a lucky day! First I find Chögyam Trungpa's "Born in Tibet" (1966) on the sidewalk to take away (people do that here), then the mail brings me BeeLyn Naihiwet's new book of poetry "Moonful" (2024). I'm already struck by its motto.

I had made up my mind Every cruel thing would find me a mirror When a wisp of poetry distracted my senses And I stepped into sweet reflection, eyelashes drawn like curtains If I had a dollar for every time I was caught off guard #micropoetry #poem

The path is made by walking #7syllablesentence This sounded so good i suspected i was remembering, not creating. Yes.... It's an alternate translation of this poem by Machado, and maybe also a proverb. www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/58815/...

[Traveler, your footprints]
Traveler, your footprints are the only road, nothing else. Traveler, there is no road; you make your own path as you walk. As you walk, you make your own road, and when you look back you see the path ...

obsessed with this painting by Hélène Delmaire, which inspired this ekphrastic poem from We Contain Landscapes. it’s a sonnet that breaks off, with fewer syllables at the last line, bc the speaker is crying. how to surrender to grief while refusing to be subsumed by it? WCL is forthcoming in March 🌀
Self-Portrait as Hélène Delmaire's Painting of a Woman in the Bathtub

whose face you cannot see. Head to knees,
back bare, shoulders sloped toward shadow.
I bow to the ache. Surrender in
the color between greens: my thinking
serpentine: cinching the waist of the world.
The bathwater is still, but the walls
are moving. When two paths cross, the colors
bleed. Muddied pinks, burst of rivered yellow.
Winter in the plains. How when spring came,
it was earned. I am listening for
the echo of a bell beneath my tongue.
The condition of woman is to stay.
The condition of woman is to grieve.
Weeping, I refuse—Painting by Hélène Delmaire of a woman in a bathtub, whose face you cannot see

My biggest and most important takeaway from #NCTE2024, and the one I will be sharing widely and freely as we see this rapidly approaching asteroid: DO NOT OBEY IN ADVANCE.

[delay] #vss365
Secrets

a delay
in communications
with the world
as i polish the moon
like a coin

through the cocooned womb
of my cold isolation
i sharpen my antlers
on the frost and the hush

i prefer now
the way of the wind chimes
talking only in
lipped keys
silver and old

to the breeze at dawn
in the language of bluebirds

uncaring
if anyone listens

steady and content
with the sound
of their song
