Georgia O’Keeffe enjoyed gathering natural objects, such as shells, that she brought back to her studio as inspiration for her paintings. Taken in 1937, this photograph shows the objects that surrounded O’Keeffe in her New York apartment and connected her daily life to her artistic practice.
Black-and-white photograph of Georgia O'Keeffe standing in front of a shelf in her high-rise apartment in New York City. On the shelf rest a collection of seashells, stones, and pieces of wood. Also resting on the shelf is a large painting of a group of three seashells in the light of the window.

On the moon we have everything. Lettuce, and pumpkin pie and Amanita phalloides. We have cat-furred plants and horses dancing with their wings. All the locks are solid and tight, and there are no ghosts. Shirley Jackson, We Have Always Lived In The Castle
Cover of Shirley Jackson's novel We Have Always Lived In The Castle with a black and white illustration showing a young girl (Merricat Blackwood) in the foreground centre, holding a black cat, behind her, her hands resting on Merricat's shoulders, a young woman (Merricat's older sister Constance). Both are looking at the beholder. In the background to their left and right are several people, looking at them (inhabitants of the village).
