I found mine in a small shop in town that specialised in kitchenware 😊 I also have a set of measuring spoons for cup sizes - which in itself is an inconsistent measurement, bc there's like the imperial cup, the US cup, etc. 😅
US and UK cup sizes

In the UK, cups have rarely been used in published recipes since the 1960s. If it's an old UK recipe, it'll use the imperial cup (284.131ml), which is significantly more than its more modern 250ml metric cup counterpart, now referenced in the UK as well as Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the rest of the Commonwealth.

In the US, it's 236.59ml in recipes, but 240ml on nutritional labelling. Still with me? The mess begins before you've even cracked an egg.

With all this confusion around cup sizes, weighing in grams with a set of kitchen scales becomes an easier and more accurate way to cook. It also helps you ensure your cake doesn't turn out somewhere between a concrete slab and a chocolate omelette.

You can use the reference tables below to assist you with converting your recipe ingredients from cups to grams.

Weighing scales at the ready, let's go through the most common baking ingredients in turn.

Some people never had to fight for anything in their lives... 🙄 Also, just to add: the vast majority of the French public support the protests (which have grown into a protest against right-wing politics)

And because I just remembered this scene, have a second one. 😁
Screenshot from the movie Wasabi (2002) with Jean Reno, Ryōko Hirosue, and Michel Muller. Screenshot shows Reno and Muller sitting at a table in a Tokyo Restaurant and discussing. Reno has some Wasabi on his right index finger and is about to lick it up.

The scene then continues with Reno's character not reacting AT ALL to the wasabi's heat, which Muller's character can't believe (having lived in Tokyo for a while) and licks some too, only to immediately turn bright red and cough.

The movie is in both French and Japanese, and I remember it was quite an amusing watch too.

I'd say that is anecdotal evidence at best, and doesn't quite refute my words. I think rah put it best as to why it can be a good tool in the hands of those who know what they're doing, and not beginners - you first need the proper framework to understand what you're doing.
Comment by rahaeli regarding LLM usage in tech fields (such as security or coding), posted on 5 September 2026:

Yeah, it's the kind of tool that's best used once you already know what you're doing, not by beginners, and there's a real concern that people who are using it from the beginning won't ever develop the conceptual framework and understanding that lets them use it most effectively.

Touching text ❤️ Especially the paragraphs about how it changes our way of learning - away from developing understanding on our own and towards being given answers immediately. (I've learned most of what I know by doing and bc I'm stubborn as hell if I want to know how something works 😁)
I think some people who go into this field learn by brute force, myself included. Trying things over and over until they work. Finding solution after solution until they start to recognize what the better solutions are. Learn by doing until success. I’m afraid those types of minds may have a harder time learning in this new era. I worry about an over reliance on these tools. It's a similar feeling to how some new coders would learn frameworks that abstract web development. There's a missed opportunity to learn from doing and how it's made. Nothing inherently wrong with these web frameworks, but it does lock you in and sometimes makes it harder to move on to something new if you don't know the fundamentals of web development. Similar to the lessons you learn from writing projects by hand and researching hard problems.

It's a new world in many ways. In my life, I've seen the ways for a common person to gain information via research move from the card catalogs in libraries, searching the internet, and now onto asking LLMs. The LLMs usually do the previous two for you in a sense. You could always ask someone a question and get an answer, but I always found learning in research. I would learn something else along the way; it was a journey. I think there may be some of that still in LLMs, but I can't help but wonder what's lost when the skill of research is not practiced as much as it once was.

It uses OAuth, which means they are NOT privy to your log-in credentials.
From the FAQ on bsky38.com:

Is logging in secure?

You sign in with your Bluesky account through OAuth, which means you type your password on your own account’s host, never here. We never see your password.

The account permissions we ask for cover four things: saving your votes, saving a campaign profile, uploading a campaign avatar, and removing you from the nominees if you ask. It cannot post, follow, like, or otherwise control your account, and you can revoke it from your account at any time.

From the Wikipedia article about Bluesky:

Tagging Open Doors fics as such is just to legally cover their asses IMO... Regarding whether AO3 is an archive or not: - It's in their name and on their "About" page It's definitely NOT a social media site, if that's what that person on the dead bird app wants to argue.
Screenshot of the AO3 header, the name written out is "Archive of Our Own".Screenshot of the first two paragraphs of AO3's "About" Page:

"The Organization for Transformative Works (OTW) is a nonprofit organization, established by fans in 2007, to serve the interests of fans by providing access to and PRESERVING the history of fanworks and fan culture in its myriad forms. We believe that fanworks are transformative and that transformative works are legitimate.

(example: reading through the archives)

Add-on: Unless either Bluesky or someone with some professional insight says otherwise, technical issues on the service end are likely the cause for what happened - as mentioned in the International Business Times (see link & screenshot) www.ibtimes.co.uk/bluesky-outa...
Screenshot from the linked International Business Times article:
"Based on the behaviour described by users, possible causes include a failure in a core backend system, authentication or session issues, problems with Bluesky's 'AppView' layer — the part of the system that assembles posts into a timeline — or temporary overload in the infrastructure behind the AT Protocol, the open standard Bluesky is built on, though these remain unconfirmed."

I've read it, and it's still about the attack in April, not yesterday.
Screenshot from the Security Affairs article about the DDoS against Bluesky (dated APRIL 21, 2026):

"Bluesky suffered a 24-hour DDoS attack that caused outages. A pro-Iran hacker group claimed responsibility for the disruption.

Bluesky experienced a sophisticated DDoS attack that disrupted its services for about 24 hours, starting on April 15. (Date marked in yellow)

Bluesky is a decentralized, open-source microblogging social media platform similar to X (formerly Twitter). It allows users to post short messages, images, and videos (up to 300 characters) while providing more control over algorithms, data, and moderation."Second screenshot from the same Security Affairs article:

"The attack disrupted feeds, notifications, threads, and search, causing intermittent outages. A pro-Iran hacker group, called 313 Team (aka “Islamic Cyber Resistance in Iraq”), claimed responsibility, highlighting growing threats against social media platforms and the impact of coordinated disruption campaigns.

“Our team received a report of intermittent app outages at about 11:40pm PDT on April 15, 2026. (Date marked in yellow) They worked through the night to mitigate a sophisticated Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack, which intensified throughout the day.” Bluesky announced. “We have not seen any evidence of unauthorized access to private user data.”

The company found no signs of data breaches and confirmed it limited the impact of the attack and avoided prolonged outages."

I think part of the reason why we hear about so many more earthquakes is bc we have better and more equipment placed. Plus, there are about 500k earthquakes per year, of which about 100k can be actually felt by a human. Earth's crust is constantly moving...
From the Wikipedia article on Earthquakes, section Frequency:

"The number of seismic stations has increased from about 350 in 1931 to many thousands today. As a result, many more earthquakes are reported than in the past, but this is because of the vast improvement in instrumentation, rather than an increase in the number of earthquakes."

Hope you're having a decent summer! (Europe is having a 3-month heatwave 🫠 Can't wait for rain to finally come!) Anyway, found another account that might fit the ragebait category. bsky.app/profile/ori-...
Screenshot of Ori-Ole tellying jenn m. jackson, a Black person who talks about the death of Professor Arday, that not everything is about skin color. (A very American White reaction)Ori-Ole calling Kashana (again a Black person) a "leftist loon" in response to her react post about Professor Arday's death.Ori-Ole showing her White American ass - asking Sutton why she hates her own race...Ori-Ole being racist towards NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, telling him to take his "family of Overlords" (meaning his Muslim family) back to Uganda, as well as using "Communist" as a slur.

(Mamdani is a Socialist Democrat, but that probably looks a lot like Communist when you've been fed lies all your life)
