That's not the computer, that's just the graphics card. And if you want top-tier hardware, it's $10,000. Add $1500 I guess for the rest of the computer, IDK. So yeah. Keeping in mind that a bunch of wannabe AI tycoons drove these prices up by buying and just stockpiling them.

In order to bypass the AI data center stuff I installed a small one on my desktop and it does chat stuff ok, basically searches the internet for you. But it can't code. I have a budget gamer video card from 12 years ago, 8GB ram. So I went to see what an AI capable card runs. $2,000 minimum.

Denialism is a possibility but my guess is that they're seeing it as disingenuous, and a way to drive hype and much needed sales. The hyperscaler economics are unsustainable so it's rational to entertain a "false whistleblower" scenario, but I'll need more than that.

I found out in the course of this thread that everyone seems to think that he never made this pivot and everyone thinks he's still this pro-AI/singularity guy. Which is a bit disorienting, because I used to think of Bsky as a home of people who read and learn, but this is breaking that.

My only exposure to him prior to this thread was in the last year or two where he has been in favor of halting AI development. I listened to a couple of hours of podcasts and he was consistent on this. Everyone in this thread should agree.
