Short walk around the Schnurrviertel in Minden, Germany- these colorful gates had a cat ramp, dog window, and chickens in the small yard behind. Also loved the leaning half timber structures. #germany #deutschland

Have yourself a merry little Carboniferous. #Art #SciArt #PaleoArt #Inverts
a pine tree with bugs hanging all around it. at the very top is a dragonfly-like meganeura with open wings, circling the base is the giant millipede arthropleura. on the branches sit various insects and circular pine cones.

Hey! I’ve just added you. I still need to add more people to it, as there are probably lots more sewists on here now than when I started it!

Just made orange and clove pomanders like we did growing up- I always found them odd but loved the scent! Turns out pomanders date back to the Middle Ages, used to ward off pestilence or simply as portable perfume. They were usually a ball shaped metal cage holding aromatics. #medieval #history

When botanist Richard Deakin examined Rome’s Colosseum in the 1850s, he found 420 species of plant growing in the ruins: cypresses and ilex, pea plants and more than 50 types of grasses. But some flowers growing there mystified him. They were so rare they were found nowhere else in Europe.

Thanks for putting together this thread- really fascinating! I recently learned about a freshwater crab that also makes its home in the forum and Colosseum area, believed to be ancient inhabitants from back when the area was a marsh. www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/arti...

Meet the ‘giant’ river crabs that live beneath Rome’s ancient ruins
Not much remains from the time Rome was only a marshy valley—except the crabs that have taken over ancient canals.

My parents spotted monarch caterpillars in their yard! They’ve been stopping by the milkweed plant each day to make sure nothing has disturbed them. #insects #entomology

I’d recommend learning Fair Isle colorwork for this since the color change per row would happen frequently and since there are two main colors. With Fair Isle you basically move the active color forward and leave the passive color on the back of the work, so you don’t have to start and stop.

Last night, I watched 'The Frozen North' episode of the new BBC Nature Asia series and was amazed how baby Baikal seals can survive under ice thanks to their mothers blowing air bubbles. Reminded me of the scene in Sanctum where the diver breathes air off the cave walls. youtu.be/auQ9VsXp9Ho?...

I noticed there wasn't a feed related to landscape architecture, so I set one up- will continue to adjust the filters as needed to ensure it is capturing most content related to the topic. bsky.app/profile/did:... #landscapearchitecture #landarch

Recently stumbled across a blog post by @pketh.org about a tool called PlantStudio. It’s like an early version of SpeedTree, focused on visualizing vegetation! Super impressed by the detailed parameters- such a cool intersection of landscape design/botany and computation. pketh.org/plantstudio....

Digging Into PlantStudio, a Bit Late
This aesthetic screenshot of an old windows app has been in my inspiration space for ~5 years. Until recently, I assumed that it was just a nostalgia bait concept.

A golden autumn afternoon last November at the Sligachan Bridge on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. #photography #naturephotography #landscapephotography #scotland
The historic Sligachan bridge spans a small creek, with a rugged treeless landscape behind. The evening is approaching and the skye is warm while misty.

80% Audiobook, 10% eBook, 10% Tangible. I keep reference books that I return to often as eBooks or physical copies, but mostly listen to books as I like doing other things at the same time- sewing, commuting, chores, etc.
