Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 4hYes, I’m inclined to agree with you on twat. I lived in the UK for four years, and there are big differences in some words Americans find equivalent. Kelly is definitely both. 000
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 13hI spent 10 days in Hong Kong. I’m sorry I didn’t get to Macau. I’d love to go back. 110
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 14hMy career took me all over the world. I’ve been to Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The best thing about Shenzhen was meeting professionals from all over China and sampling regional and ethnic foods. Such variety! I like Peking duck. I did not like pickled mutton. 😆 200
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 15hYes. Kitchen time is therapy for me. I am a diehard foodie, too. When I traveled a lot I always enjoyed exploring regional specialties. 220
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I have a friend who’s all over that. Store the gear in electrostatic protective bags and rig some metal trash cans for storage. Essentially Faraday cages. 010
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Silver salmon planked and hit with a little applewood smoke. 2172
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 07/10/2026It’s pretty surprising to me. The antenna sits about 4m above ground adjacent to some trees. The leaves are gone now, so there are fewer dropouts. During summer it’s bad. 010
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Thanks, Bill. The bare trees really help with the reception using the turnstile. 000
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I’ve been away much of the day, but automated weather satellite reception is working well on the Raspberry Pi 4B. Here’s a nice shot of the Bering Strait received from METEOR-M N2-3 at 2145Z. Processed as AVHRR 221 using Satdump 1.2.2. Antenna is a Wraase KX137 turnstile with preamp. 292
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Good evening from amateur radio station KL2R in Two Rivers, Alaska. KL1BE observes the two moose and tower. She considers antennas industrial art. I’m not sure which is more impressive, but Mother Nature is amazing! Aurora tonight? 0190
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 06/10/2026SAM2A (aka AF2) making its way up from Anchorage. The temporary flight restrictions just kicked in and is troublesome for several FAI operators. Some going to Nenana, some to Bradley Sky Ranch in North Pole. ADS-B rules. 020
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 05/10/2026There are redundant fiber links to Outside, one following the rail line and another following the Rich Hwy to Valdez. Sounds reliable, but I recall the day both failed. One due to digging along the RR and the other due to an avalanche in Thompson Pass. At FCDAS we had to fall back to slow domsat. 020
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Good morning from Two Rivers, Alaska. It’s a double moose kind of day. 340
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I tried 7 and 9 degree passes of ISS for SSTV, but the angles are just not good. I spent most of my day re-purposing a Raspberry Pi 4B to SDR stuff. More work to do there. 000
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Despite my breakfast of champions, DX proved elusive on HF. Kp was 5, which is bad up here at 65N. RS44 made a 20 degree pass just after 00z with good angles from North America to Central Europe. It got downright crowded on FT4, and I had to QSY a couple of times. ND and MD in the bag. Inch by inch. 150
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 05/10/2026We have two Grass Stations in Fairbanks. Grass Station 49. 010
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Humans are not at the top of the food chain when bears are around. 020
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 04/10/2026As promised. The knife is entirely redundant, because a fork easily cuts the Wagyu steak. The trick to overcome any texture issues is to slice it thin and zap it on medium-high heat. High-protein, stick-to-your-ribs breakfast for a long day ahead. Now let’s go do some DX before afternoon chores. 160
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I’ve seen similar here in Fairbanks, but possibly a different species. Looks like a type of Armillaria. 010
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Good evening from amateur radio station KL2R in Two Rivers, Alaska. I did a little satellite work today. RS44 turned up a few Qs on CW and FT4. SO50 was dead quiet to my CQs. ISS SSTV got borked with rotor issues. 1161
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 04/10/2026That’s a bunch! BTW I think Multipsk gets a bad rap, if only because of the crazy user interface. It’s extremely powerful software for data modes. Worth the time to learn. 120
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 03/10/2026As an aviation enthusiast, I naturally listen to local ATC on VHF and UHF. There’s more to the story, though, as I occasionally monitor HF datalink transmissions (think ACARS on shortwave). Here’s a sampling of aircraft heard on 10060 kHz this morning. Thats the Seoul ground station frequency. 160
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I like .300 Win Mag for shootability. I added a muzzle brake to mine, and recoil is like my .243 Win (Parker Hale 1200). Lots of noise, though. The smoke and flame from the brake is impressive. 020
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I have one cowboy hat purchased in 1976 at ML Leddy in Cowtown, Fort Worth. Chocolate brown felt with a feather band (added later). 010
Leon N1TX @n1tx.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I ask myself the same question. I think as she’s gotten older, she doesn’t like fattier meats. This is an annual indulgence. I cut it into four pieces and will treat myself now and then. 120
