iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

This isn't me hating on the show or Viv. I adore her creativity & the shows she has given us. The fact that there ARE so many haters creates a toxic environment where we all suffer. I hope the writers keep writing the show they envision AND take valid feedback into consideration. 💜

000

It isn't unreasonable for viewers to be frustrated with unclear characterization, especially in the protagonist. Most people can't articulate WHY they feel frustrated, so they go on X and bash the show on surface level complaints that seem vitriolic and baseless. Not all crit is blind hatred though.

100

Adopting a snarky, defensive response to a large chunk of the audience being genuinely confused by the MC's behavior, motivations, and attitude is not productive. There's a time to be catty, but sometimes you have to say "our audience is confused & it's up to us to see if we can fix that."

100

None of this is to imply that she has to be perfect. Having a character arc is important! Of course she will start out flawed. I think the issue is a lack of clarity about what her flaws even ARE, and this comes down to some of the decisions that were made in the writing room.

100

By S2, people were starting to "feel" this discrepancy. The show still acts like it wants us to believe she's a sweet, innocent, do-gooder, but she finally admits that she's doing all of this, not bc she cares about sinners, but bc she believes her mom cares, & she wants to impress her mom.

100

There's nothing wrong with either character type, but from a story perspective, the motivations, fears, quirks, and flaws of these two would drive the plot in completely different ways. The "lesson" they learn, the trials they go through, and the decisions they make will be very different.

100

That is not what plays out on the screen in front of our eyes. In her actions, she is driven to succeed, concerned about reputation, only gives attention to people who agree with her, and prone to fits of rage and mania. The two personalities don't align.

100

I think part of the discomfort a lot o people have w Charlie is that there is a jarring mismatch btwn what the narrative wants us to believe about her vs what we are actually shown. She is *presented* to us as a caring, empathetic, naive, cheerful, gentle, benevolent princess. However...

100

I wish I hadn't read the commentary. A lot of the remarks came across as antagonistic to the fans & it made me worried for the direction of the show.

What I bring to the table: *Awkward silence *Drawer full of OTC and prescription meds *Cat fur *Gluten free snacks *Excuses *Show tunes at inappropriate moments *Obscure movie/TV quotes *A level of dgaf never before seen on the planet *My own car so I can leave when the vibes get weird

LOL I think it's just a matter of your personal/natural storytelling rhythm. I never aim for 5K - that's usually just where a chapter naturally concludes for me, but it's not set in stone.

Chapter 8 is going to be a long one. I'm already at 5K words and I still have one whole scene left to write. (And it's a good one!) I'd be writing right now but my son wanted to hang out today, and family comes first. (I have a few art projects on the back burner too but I have to be in the mood.)

I was trying to describe it to someone today and the best I could come up with was "Cowboy Bebop meets Undertale" LOL! It's so good.

What is the point of "efficiency" if you lose your humanity in the process? What is the point of "productivity" if the product is soulless and hollow? Technology was supposed to free us up to do what we want, but if you take away artistic expression, what are you free to do? Chores & bills?

I don't understand why anyone uses AI for creative work. Neurodivergence, chronic illness, and trauma have done so much to sever my connection to humanity, so I use writing and art as a means to reconnect to that "real-ness" that's still buried inside. Why would you throw this ability away?

Yes!!! A worthy endeavor LOL. I'm learning to draw for similar reasons. Untapped creative juices can be very motivating.

I've already got about 2000 words written on chapter 8, but I'm still dealing with some IRL issues. I may need surgery but the doctor wants to try an outpatient procedure first to see if that helps. Hopefully I will soon be back to normal and I'll have enough spoons for writing and art!

Silly sketch of a scene from chapter 2 of Nobody's Shadow in which he patiently indulges Mimzy's flirting a bit, which surprises Lucifer. (The perspective bothers me but I don't know how to fix it. I'm still learning.)

My Xennial complaint is that Klipy never has the gif I want, the search function is useless, and posting a link to Tenor or another gif site almost never works right on Bluesky. LET ME GIF!!!
