I happened to glance at the sky this morning and saw the ISS flying over. I haven't seen the ISS in ages... why today? Why now when I'm trying to forge my own path and let you go? Why today when the grief is heaviest? Your memory lives with me in the ISS, closer than we realize but still miles away

In 2002 I spent the summer in NYC and visited ground zero. Despite seeing everything unfold live on TV less than a year earlier the scale of loss and destruction is hard to describe.

There's a house near me that flies a U.S., Texas, "Come and Take It," and Blue Star military service flags AND put up "America 250" streamers around their house. All hallmarks of a conservative family... But they have @jamestalarico.bsky.social and @ginafortexas.bsky.social signs in the yard. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

A random fucking hair, stuck in the freezer for who knows how long, comes to the surface screaming into the silence, your memory echoing in the void, the empty space of the kitchen where our laughter used to ring

Sobbing uncontrollably in the car blasting EDM deep in my feelings while driving to a social meet and greet event is peak adult behavior.

Each quiet night alone is fine on its own, but they never stop coming. Every night the loneliness builds on itself and each solitary dinner is a reminder of the void you left.

The grief isn't persistent like it was at first. Instead it sneaks up on me, hunting me down when my back is turned, luring me into a false sense of peace. I broke down today remembering the beginning. The softness and joy. The lightness. Now gone, replaced by deep sobs dragging me to the floor.

Gentle reminder to myself: you will have good days and bad days and that's okay. And in reality the bad days are not actually bad, they're just hard. You'll have easier days and harder days and that's okay. Over time the hard days will slowly become easier and the easier days will happen more often.

I'm in a cursed mood and can't bear the human face, so put off coming here, I advise you, as long as possible. Perhaps by the end of the week I shall be thawed. God Knows.

Working through grief, accountability, and growth all at the same time is more exhausting than I can possibly convey. The core of my being, the very stuff that makes up my soul is being pulled apart, painfully and embarrassingly examined, and slowly being put back together into something new.

The only thing I can do is move forward. The path is up to me, but I can't stay here. To stay put is death. Pause. Rest. Recover. But don't stay. Move forward. The details don't matter. Just move.

I only feel at peace for a moment after a good hard cry, but the tears are falling more often now and I'm terrified of sinking into a bottomless hole. Feel my feelings. Ride the wave. Place it in my body. Use my tools. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

I'm acutely aware of how draining my energy is at the moment. I feel it too my friends. I trust that my vulnerability is held softly and that our connection helps lead me gently back to myself.

My nervous system is fucked right now. I'm so overwhelmed by the fight to stay present in my body. I'm so exhausted from the lack of good sleep. I'm so drained by that constant emotional flood. I'm craving safety and comfort but I have none no matter where I turn.

Working through the point of grief where normality starts to take over for longer periods of time. It's a good thing, but it's also marred by an overarching malaise. My body is continually bracing for another waive of grief to hit and it's difficult to remain present instead giving into negativity

The temptation to abandon all I am for connection doesn't come from naivety or weakness. It lives deep in my marrow. It lives in the darkness and primal fear of remaining unseen and disconnected. Being alone doesn't phase me. It's being fully unseen that threatens to undo me.

Fear and sadness threaten to overwhelm me, but they are merely parts of my experience. I allow them to coexist and take space when they need to. They are more necessary right now, and that's okay. Those feelings do not define me.

The grass may be greener on the other side but the journey is not as simple as walking through a gate. It crosses a desert, risks drowning in an ocean of tears, and asks more from you than you thought yourself capable. You will be changed in ways unthinkable with no guarantee of happiness once there

Grief is so complex because I'm not just grieving what's lost, I'm grieving what was supposed to be and never was. Grieving potential. Grieving past present and future all at once.

It's time to throw out those wilting veggies in the salad drawer. This is a season of letting go of unfulfilled potential and things that no longer align with us.

My internal peace is more important than my external circumstances. But somewhere along the way I offloaded my peace to others and struggle to regulate without reassurance. Working to rebuilt my sense of self and internal validation.

Every piece that was intertwined has to unravel. The frayed ends from our once strong bond threaten to undo me without constant vigilance. I burn the edges and retie as much as possible, but it's an exhausting effort.

I just want to say goodnight one more time. That's a lie, and you and I both know it. One more time is never enough. Goodnight turns into good morning turns into I love you turns into I do. The last goodnight should never come, but of course it must. I just want to say goodnight one more time.

Potential is a manipulative bitch. Living in a really good relationship that has the potential to be great trains you to help hoping, keep looking for the moment it all clicks, keep focusing on the good and suppressing the unmet needs.

I'm starting to find a rhythm for each day, but I'm dsperately afraid of what the future looks like. The truth is there is no future, there is only today. If I can manage to string several good days together I might start building a future I can rely on. But fuck... the loss still hurts like a bitch

Something significant shifted in me tonight. I had several experiences in a row this evening that began the healing process on my deep wounds. The journey is long and there will be more sadness to come, but I feel happy in this moment and that's enough for now.

My mind is dark right now. Battling all day to work through the grief is exhausting, then coming home to an empty house is almost more than I can take. I want to bargain, I want to plead, I want to abandon myself for one more taste of peace. Logic eludes me. In these moments I am only grief.

Grieving loss is also grieving hope. My mind clings to hope like a life raft, and letting go of hope is it's own kind of pain. Hope that things could change. Hope that it will somehow be different. Hope that I relied on for so long, many times just to get through the day.

Trying to find the version of myself that doesn't feel the need to self-censor. There's no shame in knowing who I am. If I feel shame it's just information that needs to be examined. It can reveal a part of me that needs growth or change, but if it's something healthy there's no need to hide it.

Balancing self-growth with self-love. I want to become a better person, but I also want to love who I am and honor how far I've come. I crave someone to validate my experience, but I want to discover how to find validation within myself.

Crafting an identity is different from curating one. Crafting is centered on others. It's about the image I want to project, how I want to be seen. Curating though is about identifying & selecting only what is truly valuable to me and setting everything else aside. It is centered on my needs first.

The grief is powerful, but I am not my grief. It is something that is happening to me, something I am moving through. My challenge is to stop abandoning myself in an attempt to avoid the pain.

I try to control my environment by monitoring and managing other's emotions. I fear the uncertainty and discomfort of others negative reactions and feel responsible. This probably served me well at some point in the past, but it's a negative pattern that I'm committed to breaking.

No amount of logic can take away the fear and grief I feel. Moving through it is the only way to build resiliency and a new sense of security within myself. I want distraction and soothing so fucking badly, but I have to be willing to feel this and rebuild little by little.

My nervous system is seeking the familiar because the familiar is safe. Even though I didn't feel safe in that environment, even though I was so disregulated, I knew how to handle it. My coping mechanisms were working... well enough. But this new reality doesn't have coping strategies yet.
