Power is V^2/R, which is why 240V kettles boil water so much faster.

I don’t know that plugging something that expects 120V 20A into 240V 10A would go well but you could get ones that would work I think

No, british 240V is a hot and a neutral like our 120V (just at 120V) whereas our 240V is two 120V hots from separate phases.

that said if what Lief said is correct and they’re 10A circuits, you COULD very well just get a plug in transformer to take a 120V 20A circuit and give you a single phase 240V 10A output. Honestly would bet this exists.

pedantic note: they’re not stepped up, they just run on a 240V breaker, because technically the US residential system *is* a 240V system, just a different kind than the UK uses (120V split phase, such that taking two phases gives 240V, instead of single phase giving 240V)

For affordability, check/wait for clearance sales from big places. The two I got (me+housemate) were half off, and you definitely see ones even more steeply discounted, upwards of 75% off. I dunno how stringent the rating requirements are but often they offer no interest financing as well.

Kids: if you can afford it, do yourself the favor of getting a new mattress. I replaced my 15 year old coil spring mattress with a hybrid. Last nights sleep was the best I’ve had in awhile. I thought the aches were just getting old, and, nope.

i was building furniture yesterday at the new place. Stepped out and around the corner for pizza, and just being able to DO that, plus then there being people out and about, ahhhhh would not have believed two years ago i would be so hyped to be a city girl

People questioning their gender is good. Even if they wind up identifying as cis in the end, it's good that they felt safe enough to consider their options. If somebody changes their name and pronouns once a week, you accommodate them, you don't whine about it.
