Blackthorn growing prostrate and Creeping Willow; being contrary, eyes to the ground for #wildflowerhour #treeflowers. Then, eyes up, an epiphytic Danish Scurvy Grass… Does this count as a tree flower? 🤔
Dandelion towers over the Blackthorn..
Here is Self-heal, Prunella vulgaris, for #storyplants #wildflowerhour today. Traditionally used (as the name suggests) for an apparently random range of ailments, recent research shows that polysaccharides it contains are effective in inhibiting viral infection and replication.
Definite signs of Spring for #wildflowerhour today 🙌 😍 Cherry Plum blossom, Willow flower and Danish Scurvy Grass.
We also spotted this Early Meadow Grass, Poa infirma, in flower today for #wildflowerhour. You can also see Parsley Piert and Mossy Stonecrop (but no flowers there!).

A selection of the #newyearplanthunt finds for #wildflowerhour #thewinter10 today. A chilly one 🥶 Prize for the least glamorous flower goes to the very dried up Bristly Oxe-tongue, but a flower is a flower, right?! Second prize to the Creeping Cinquefoil, just about holding onto a petal.
Two Fumitories (Tall Ramping and White Ramping, which each grow in these locations), Cow Parsley, Sweet Violet and Dog’s Mercury included in #thewinter10 for #wildflowerhour today
Arable field margin for #wildflowerhour #thewinter10 today - part of a sacrificial feeding area for the nearby Cirl Buntings 😍 Lovely to see these flowers today even if some of them could not quite open their petals 🥶

Went in search of the Wrinkled Peaches, Rhodotus palmatus 🙌… but only the tiniest (4 mm or so) was showing that beautiful guttation. Interesting to see the chew marks from the Elm Bark Beetle, vector for Dutch Elm disease.
