Can't believe I'm wasting my time with the S&P500. I could've bet it all on eggs two years ago and 5x'ed my life savings

Anyone know of any good feeds for just like...casual chatting, not about any specific topic?

Today, for the first time ever, I plugged a piece of hardware into a server rack. Somehow this feels like a coming-of-age moment.

Atoms are binary. They are either intended to be hydrogen or helium. We can't just scrap this worldview just because of a handful of exceptions

Pie chart:
74% hydrogen
25% helium
1% other (in tiny font)

I was riding my bike by a river today and felt that the wind was stronger the closer I was to the river. Do rivers interact with wind?? Like, will a river with stronger current create stronger winds? Climate science friends, feed my curiosity! @syiwang.bsky.social @anthonymeza.bsky.social

What were your favorite parts of your communities when you were in school? I'll start! I loved loved loved being surrounded by people who I viewed as WAY more talented and smart than how I viewed myself. It drove me to better myself.

Do people walk on the other side of the sidewalk in other countries? eg. in the US I walk on the right side because that'd the side of the road I'm used to driving on. Does it go the same elsewhere??

I had a cool moment at the coffee shop in Woods Hole yesterday morning. I was chatting with the barista about being on my way to my roommate's PhD defense. I got my coffee and stepped aside. A minute later, I overheard another man chatting with her about being on his way out to "the boat"...

There are quite a lot of reasons to be concerned about genAI that don’t get as much mention. This is a list of just a few that we've listed in our @aimod.social docs.

Consent
Al-generated images involving the likeness of real individuals without consent.
Misinformation
Al-generated images in spreading misinformation or manipulating users.
Training Data
Numerous generative Al services have used data for training that was not appropriately licensed, or the source of their training data was not clearly identified.
Mimicry of Living Artists
Al imagery can replicate the style or work of active living artists, which may directly impact individual creators.
Resource consumption
The generation of Al imagery requires substantial resources, like water and electricity.
Exploitive labor
Reports indicate Al training involves unethical labor practices.
