"Is it time that we stop kids from playing these sports?" Unequivocally, yes.

Our statement regarding MLS NEXT Pro and their handling of a recent disciplinary issue:

During a recent MLS NEXT Pro match, a male head coach committed two deliberate acts of physical abuse and sexism against a female official -- squeezing her hand and refusing to let go after being told to stop three times. This physical intimidation was compounded by a demeaning, sexist remark to the official: "Don't forget, this is a man's game."

MLS NEXT Pro investigated and responded with a two-game suspension and other non-suspension discipline.

U.S. Soccer policy states a “forceful grab” like this requires a minimum three-game suspension. Acts of discrimination also require a minimum three-game suspension. MLS NEXT Pro’s own manual also states that coaches are held to “a higher professional standard than players.”

The League’s response falls drastically short of the right message to the participants, the referees, and the public. It needs to be reevaluated.

Women make every level of this game better. They should not have to endure intimidation or degrading comments to prove it. Our female officials have proven their excellence on the world stage. They deserve the same respect, dignity, and safe working environment as every other official.

I don't think people really understand the psychic impact of knowing that multiple times a day every day your friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, and everyone who could ever have any power over you is being flooded with agitprop designed to make them hate you

This anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, remember that many people with disabilities are paid below minimum wage and many can’t get married because they risk losing their SSI benefits. SSI recipients cannot have more than $2,000 in their bank account.

Amanda Clement was the first woman paid to umpire a ️#baseball game (1904). She umpired for 6 years/~50 games each summer, traveling across the upper Midwest & earning $15-$25 per game--enough to put herself through college. She died #OTD in 1971 at age 83. #SportsHistory I ❤️ ⚾

A black-and-white studio portrait of Amanda Clement (1888–1971), the historic first woman paid to umpire a baseball game. Captured from the waist up against a dark, textured background, she stands facing forward with her hands clasped behind her back in an authoritative stance. She wears a light-colored, long-sleeved collared jersey with the word "UMPS" boldly stenciled in large, dark, block lettering across her chest, a piece she designed herself to enforce professional boundaries. A striped baseball cap sits atop her dark hair, which is tied back neatly. She looks just past the camera with a calm, confident, and serious expression, conveying a focused professionalism. The stark portrait uses classic studio lighting that illuminates her face and jersey, emphasizing her historic role. The overall mood is dignified and determined, capturing her pioneering spirit as a trailblazing figure who challenged traditional gender roles in sports during the early 20th century.

I'll accept the charges that I really only care about 2 teams in men's soccer, but I'd love to see Sands in Damet's #AllForCity system. Given the established midfield pairing, we could give him space to recover fully and then push the the unit.

This is exciting and it's exactly the kind of tool that eases the overwhelm for my tired brain. I've watched maybe 120 minutes of WOSO this calendar year and a big part has been the fractured, overview-starved streaming landscape.

I'm thinking today about how often "Anyone would have done {fucked up thing} in that situation." is one of the ways we let our abusers highjack our mouths, minds, and actions.

“It’s just a joke” and a joke is just a container for some ideas, as are all word forms. Jokes also happen to be a form that if they’re well structured are particularly punchy and sticky. So … Yes?
