In the late 70s my cousin was born at a hospital that has not started giving vitamin k shots as a standard. In a letter to my pregnant mom her sister told her to ensure I got it because her baby almost bled to death from a medical procedure and began to clot as soon as it was given.

The fox tattoo on my arm used to be full colour but apparently my skin just nopes out on orange/yellow/white. The problem with using living skin as an art canvas is that its job is literally to not let foreign matter into us through it and it's sometimes too good at it.

Endo isn't rare, it happens in about 10% of people born with uteruses. EDS is also less "rare" than "previously under diagnosed", as I understand it. If your question was rhetorical, apologies in advance for telling you what you already knew, but it's an important conversation!

I am really impressed with what a serious country the US is now that I've paid a $5 tarrif to send old family photos with a declared value of $1 to my brother in Guam.

Oh gosh, I'm queer and disabled, I have no choice but to know how the system can fail if you piss off the wrong person. That said I will be writing them a letter thanking them for their excellent care but suggesting a l'il bit of training re: gender identity, it's only going to get more important.

I recently spent a couple months being benignly misgendered by hospital staff while providing company for a dying relative because I was afraid if I made a fuss her standard of care would suffer. Healthcare workers often seem oblivious to the amount of power they hold.

My uncle has a really great muzzle for his big silly doofus of a pit mix, it doesn't even stop him from eating stuff like treats but it slows him down enough they can intervene if needed. I don't know why I'd mention this given that Maple is an angel but for some weird reason I still did.

They are! A couple family members bought them as souvenirs and treasured them but there's no longer anyone who has memories of the trips and they've just been sitting with a bunch of photos waiting to be dealt with.
