I’m upset about Jacob Geller. I would almost certainly never work with him after these revelations and I probably won’t ever watch his videos again. I feel the same anger that drives these posts, and I’m not trying to dunk. But I’m not sure I agree with what they actually say. I want to explore that
here's the thing: the question of "can someone redeem themselves after committing sexual assault" is completely separate from the question of "should that person have a career making YouTube videos."they can be an accountant. they can go into admin work. they can go work on a farm. they are not barred from making a living. they just don't have a basic human right to make money filming themselves talking about video games.

Had to save a group chat girlie from the fate that befell me
Discord message from mx. emotion:

I tried nair on my face (the special kind the make for faces) a while back and like some hair came off but not even half of it (and I just had some stubble at the time!)
Then I tried it again much sooner than you’re supposed to do that and my whole face just became a wound (still with hair)

I need the blue and pink dress Anne Hathaway wears in The End of Oak Street. I would look cool and attractive in the blue and pink dress Anne Hathaway wears in The End of Oak Street
Promotional image for The End of Oak Street, featuring Anne Hathaway holding a shotgun and wearing a short blue dress with long sleeves and a loud pink floral pattern on the collar, lapels, cuffs, and hip pockets. Danny would fucking rock this dress

From my upcoming book, an excerpt on the ever-useful life lesson I took from a movie about fascists raping teenagers:
One of the problems with life online is that it can make you afraid to trust your own perspective. The people there are good at making things seem problematic. They often have hidden motives for doing so. Pasolini teaches us to examine those motives, inspect statements for more than internal logic, and trust our ethical instincts. If someone sounds like they’re twisting things to manipulate you, they probably are.

broadsoundmag.com/2025/03/07/b... Piece of an old essay. Using “Kannon” here at different points to mean both the deity of compassion and the Sunn O))) album about them
I have come to believe in the deep unity of emptiness, to believe that all divisions are as false as they are real. That existence, viewed a certain way at least, is one undivided whole. Therefore, I believe you cannot love the world if you hate anything, you cannot love yourself if you hate anything, and you cannot love anything if you hate yourself. Knowledge of unity necessitates compassion, necessitates Kannon.

Recently, while meditating with Kannon, not trying to clear my mind or avoid all thoughts but simply trying to observe my thoughts and relate to them differently, I suddenly saw myself in a new light. I was all clutch and crave. Needy and worried about everything, clinging to phantoms, rushing from place to place, doing everything but the work that was most necessary. I am ridiculous, I thought. I laughed, actually laughed out loud at the small, silly creature I now saw myself to be.But crucially, the laughter held no trace of derision. It was a kindhearted, indulgent laughter, a laugh one might laugh at the irrational fears of a small child. I saw myself as childlike—even, perhaps especially, in my most anguished moments and most serious efforts. The laughter momentarily replaced the judgment and self-hatred that are so habitual for me. How could I hate myself? I’m just a little guy.

This is Kannon. Knowledge of unity necessitates compassion, and compassion is what makes the experience of unity possible. Compassion for loves, for enemies, and for the self. Not a jealous, insecure, hypersubjective kind of self-advocacy, but an extension of love to oneself as one would extend love to another. This is Kannon.

Being just hours away from my book deadline has me getting extra real about some shit in this draft
It is July of 2023. My terrible girlfriend is having a birthday party at my house. Being terrible, she has very few friends, so the guest list is six of my friends and two people she just met. I understand that I’m laying it on thick here. I hate this girl.

The last two paragraphs of that article are somehow dumber than the email. Feels very much LLM written except for the exceedingly bizarre button of “Surprising it is.”
Screenshot of article’s ending, including beginning of author bio:

This is not a matter of another online post sparking debate, but a testament that young professionals with fresh ideas are willing to speak boldly for their rights. The simplicity of this intern has sparked conversations about fostering openness and creative problem-solving in modern workplaces.

WHY?

Because such situations are a reminder that insights from a new perspective can be straightforward and impactful. Surprising it is.

About 60% through Iain M. Banks’ The Player of Games and this shit rules. Philosophical sci-fi about games as political processes, molding their players, reflecting/reproducing the ideologies of the societies that birthed them. Chewy, delicious ideas, true and useful. Eager to see where it lands.
German cover art for The Player of Games, under the title of Das Spiel Azad. The art is reminiscent of Giorgio de Chirico, with a black and white checkered floor surrounded by mountains whose distance seems somehow both near and far. Floating above the floor are a metal sphere and a column with three floating, disconnected segments. This contemplative vibe serves the book better, I think, than any of the other cover art I found for it online.

Incredible to see someone sincerely attempt the “just following orders” defense in 2026 as if it’s just common sense. To then be informed of the historical context of that particular idea, react like you’ve legitimately never heard of it, and loudly decide it doesn’t matter? Baby that’s art to me.
Mid-thread post from Bechdel Pest:

I mean, it’s at least debatable-what do you think the Marines do? More or less what ICE does in Minneapolis and Los Angeles? A senator can at least plead ignorance (which is probably why Platner wants the job, lol)

Reply from bukee.bsky.social:

??? What the fuck are you talking about? You understand the chain of command, right? You understand that one acts over the orders of the other?Reply from Bechdel Pest:

The chain of command is entirely irrelevant to my point, “just following orders” is kind of textbook fascism-enabling lmao

Reply from bukee.bsky.social:

Then what the fuck are you talking about? Do youneven know what fascism is?Reply from Daniel Bikes:

For some context for you, “just following orders” was a failed defense tactic at the Nuremberg trials after WWII.

Soldiers who carry out fascist orders are, per legal precedent, no better than the people who convey the orders.

Beginning of a reply from bukee.bsky.social:

Good thing this isn’t a trial then.

Favorite first-time watches of April 2026
Shot from Michael Clayton. A gray-haired white man walking purposefully down an alley. Tucked under his arm is a large paper bag from which emerges the ends of at least fifteen baguettes.Shot from Re-Wind. A young Japanese woman in red sits speaking to a young man whose face is turned toward her and away from the camera. Behind both of them is a large screen showing a woman with her mouth open in distress.Shot from James Acaster: Hecklers Welcome. A white man with red hair crouches on a stage with his back to seated audience members visible behind him. He is wearing a green sweatsuit with yellow sneakers and holding the mic stand tipped way down towards the floor.Shot from Star Trek III: The Wrath of Khan. A closeup on the face of a creature that seems like a cross between a crocodile and a dog. He’s a good boy.

My 10 favorite films, off the top of my head: Mulholland Drive Kiss Kiss Bang Bang The Sadness I Saw the TV Glow Straight Up Design for Living Drowning by Numbers Tampopo Dellamorte Dellamore Silent Night Deadly Night
Shot from I Saw the TV glow. A CRT screen within the frame shows a bizarre face looking straight into the camera. Its mask-like, humanoid features are emerging from a larger surface that looks like the moon but also fungal, with strange and irregular edges.A shot from The Sadness. An old Taiwanese woman looks straight into the camera. Her hair is long and stringy, her clothes dirty and smeared with blood, her eyes black and rimmed with red. She has a wide and menacing smile filled with jagged, rotting teeth.Shot from Dellamorte Dellamore. A young white European woman looks straight into the camera. Her lips are pursed as if blowing a kiss, and she is seen half in shadow and behind a sheet of sheer fabric that covers the entire frame.Shot from Tampopo. A young Japanese man in a white suit and trilby hat stands leaning forward with his elbow on his hitched-up knee and looks straight into the camera with an air of authority. He is in a brightly lit movie theater, surrounded by seated people. A woman stands behind him and a tray of decadent food sits at their seats.

There’s a kinship between Drowning by Numbers, The Company of Wolves, and Joseph Cornell that I don’t know how to explain or what to do with. A certain flavor of fragile world made up meticulously of memory and dream.
Shot from The Company of Wolves. A closeup of a bird’s nest containing some downy white feathers, four small, mottled, blue and grey stones shaped like eggs, and a small circular mirror which perfectly reflects a young girl’s face.A shot from Drowning by Numbers. A game of tug of war with 14 participants and a referee, centered on a small wooden structure near a coastline, composition mostly flat and mostly symmetrical, with a table, some chairs, and a little dog in the foreground.A shadow box by Joseph Cornell. Centered in the back is an old portrait of a young child. This is positioned behind a blue shelf with a little red ball, and surrounded with fragments of maps, small cards with smaller reproductions of similar portraits, little tiles featuring images of birds and leaves, and various other mysterious objects and images.A shadow box by Joseph Cornell. A little white ball is suspended on a little track consisting of two thin rails. Below lies a clay pipe. Behind these objects is a collage of various constellations in blue and black, with rough, unfinished swaths of white paint.

A 4.5-star Letterboxd review:

This probably isn’t actually better than Wrath of Khan I’m probably just in a better mood but I had a blast with this, I love Christopher Lloyd’s weird lizard dog thing, I love the alien barcade, I love that McCoy thinks he won all those arguments with Spock, I love all my friends doing a little scheme, I love Uhura’s big moment, I love finding out that Vulcans fuck with their hands, I love when Kirk’s masterful maneuvers are just like “What if I told a lie tee hee hee,” I love Star Trek.

However, I will say that my ultimate measure for a Trek installment’s quality is “How much profound shit does Spock get to say,” and by that measure thus far The Motion Picture reigns supreme. Suck it, everybody else in the world.

Trump can promise to nuke Iran and the IDF can openly riot about their right to rape people but I have to be coy if I want to say the only truth that matters about any of these parasites. I wrote this today in a different context but it fits here, everywhere.
The world that’s been built up around us, the selves we’re asked to inhabit, are such tie-your-wrists, steal-the-air-from-your-lungs bullshit that they can only be dismantled by gouging, gashing, slicing, slashing. The potential for this violence suffuses every moment, and its suppression is just another kind of violence. A more honest society would just peel my fucking skin off.
