UFC event on the White House lawn serves this purpose. Not just the event itself, but the controversy and debate surrounding it, which allows in-group members to define themselves against the out-group.

You have to admire the chutzpah of the BBC’s response to the Trump lawsuit www.ft.com/content/d2a0...
In response, the BBC has sought to identify the financial impact of the documentary, including serving a subpoena on the Donald J Trump Revocable Trust, which holds the president's business interests and assets. It is managed by his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, who is the sole trustee.
The BBC legal team has requested the production of financial documents that reflect its holdings and value, assets, inventories and lists of properties held. This includes information regarding almost 400 entities owned by or associated with the trust, as well as requests for tax returns, according to court filings in May.

This is also the political economy of digitalisation.
Kenya
More than 600 Kenyans in Cambodia, who say they were victims of human traffickers, have appealed to the courts in Nairobi to force their government to bring them home.
Cambodia's interior ministry said it recovered them during a crackdown on online fraud centers run by organized criminals.
According to the Kenyans, they were tricked into traveling to Cambodia with the promise of legitimate employment but were then made to work in heavily-guarded compounds where they were subject to attacks and abuse, including stabbings.
Cambodian authorities have given them until February 28 to leave the country or face potential imprisonment but they say they cannot afford flights back to Kenya.

can't help but think there is probably a corrosive effect of having sex trafficker-elite emails unveiled for months on end as one of the biggest cultural/news stories of the last year— unearthing an inexcusable moral rot in the upper echelons of power—but without any real accountability/justice

This is like a scene out of Monty Python. ICE agents get a name back from face recognition and multiple agents start calling out "Maria! Maria!" to see if a woman in custody reacts. (Presumably if she does that's a match???) It didn't work, so they ran the app again and got another name.
In Oregon testimony last year, an agent said two photos of a woman in custody taken with his face-recognition app produced different identities. The woman was handcuffed and looking downward, the agent said, prompting him to physically reposition her to obtain the first image. The movement, he testified, caused her to yelp in pain. The app returned a name and photo of a woman named Maria; a match that the agent rated “a maybe.”

Agents called out the name, “Maria, Maria,” to gauge her reaction. When she failed to respond, they took another photo. The agent testified the second result was “possible,” but added, “I don’t know.” Asked what supported probable cause, the agent cited the woman speaking Spanish, her presence with others who appeared to be noncitizens, and a “possible match" via facial recognition. The agent testified that the app did not indicate how confident the system was in a match. “It’s just an image, your honor. You have to look at the eyes and the nose and the mouth and the lips.”

There is no Nairobi County Hall beat for example, even though it is one of the most important and corrupt institutions in the country. Athletes depend on social media to let fans know that they have events happening. Twitter is one of the main news sources. There is no national discourse.

Previously, these belief systems tended to collapse under their own weight. Contradictions and memory gaps made them hard to sustain. Now the AI removes that friction, it produces timelines, summaries, and "forensic" explanations on demand.

LLMs give people with delusional belief systems a way to organise those beliefs. The model fills in gaps, supplies connective tissue, and wraps the madness in formal language. It doesn't make the claims more credible to us, it just tidies them up.

The bigger change is presentation, historically, these emails were visually chaotic: sudden colour changes, ALL CAPS, screenshots pasted at random. Classic signs of disordered thinking. Now they’re neat, structured, and grammatically consistent. The delusion hasn't changed, but the formatting has.

Some explicitly say the AI recommended they contact us. That makes sense, the models scrape our work and cite us as a reputable source, so the AI has inadvertently become part of the referral pathway for people spiralling down a rabbit hole.
