1,740 words 7–11 minutes No comments on Mutual Aid Request Roundup 24 Sept 2026 ## “Or Do I Annihilate” On 22 September, at the UN General Assembly, Donald Trump told the room he had, in his words, “a big decision to make: Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before… or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic, and do it quickly?” He said the only thing that mattered was that Iran never have a nuclear weapon, said he wasn’t running in the midterms and would give the timing of an election no credence in his Iran decisions, then in the next breath predicted a deal would land after the midterms anyway, accusing Iran of stalling talks specifically to watch how he polls. Seventy-one percent of voters disapprove of his handling of foreign policy, the worst rating of either of his presidencies. Seventy-six percent say the war hasn’t been worth its cost in American lives and money. A president who insists an election means nothing to his decision-making, while describing a decision about annihilating a country in the same breath as that election, is not being contradictory by accident. This is not an abstract threat aimed at an abstract enemy. On 28 February this year, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in a joint US-Israeli strike that opened the war outright. Seven months later, the sitting US president is telling the UN General Assembly he is personally deciding whether to annihilate what remains of the state whose head he already had killed. Annihilate is not rhetoric when the last person to occupy that country’s highest office is already dead by the hand of the country making the threat. Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, answered the next day, 23 September, from the same podium. “Those who are terrorists… describe us using that word,” he said. “We have been the victims of terrorism… For the past two centuries, Iran had not attacked another country or territory.” He described 80,000 Gaza civilians as “brutally murdered” and held up photographs of children he said were killed in US-Israeli strikes on a school and a sports facility, then put the nuclear double standard on the record: Israel holds an undeclared, uninspected arsenal, while Iran is sanctioned into economic collapse over a programme international inspectors have never found weaponised. None of it changed the terms Washington is offering, which remain: disarm, or face a president who has already told the UN he’s deciding whether to erase your country. The ordinary consequences of that standoff are landing already. A tanker was struck in the Strait of Hormuz on 23 September, leaving two casualties. A Qatar-mediated round of US-Iran talks broke down the same week over the strikes continuing and the sanctions staying on; Iranian officials say they are in no hurry, that their conditions are simply “waiting for the Americans to implement them,” relayed through Pakistan and Qatar because there is no direct channel left. Austria Airlines suspended its Tehran route until 24 October. FlyDubai halted Iran flights outright. Iraq, Oman and Azerbaijan routes were cancelled by Iran’s own civil aviation authority, and an Iranian official has threatened to close airports in any country that keeps cooperating with US flight restrictions. None of the people booked on those cancelled flights get a vote on the annihilation question either. A head of state is dead, a currency has lost most of its value, ordinary flights keep getting cancelled over a strait two countries are still fighting over, and the president holding the country’s fate is framing the decision as something to be timed around an election he insists doesn’t matter to him. Iran’s costs are being paid by people who had no seat at the UN podium this week. 1,679 words 7–11 minutes No comments on Mutual Aid Request Roundup 17-Sept-2026 ## Forty Thousand Bombs Two dead and thirteen wounded in Tal al-Hawa on the thirteenth of September, when an Israeli strike hit a civilian vehicle hard enough that medical staff described the bodies as dismembered. The military said it had been aiming at two Hamas fighters. Two days later, four more Palestinians were killed within hours of each other and roughly a kilometre apart: a double drone strike on Sheikh Radwan that witnesses say returned a second time for the people trying to pull survivors out, a sixty-five-year-old man shot east of the Jabalia camp where he was already displaced, and a passerby killed in Sheikh Ajleen. None of it happened during a war. All of it happened during what the world has been calling a ceasefire since October of last year. The same week, six UN workers and the civilians they were sheltering were killed when a school housing displaced families was struck, pushing the cumulative toll of UN personnel killed since October 2023 to at least 393. UNRWA’s acting head, Christian Saunders, said the safety of humanitarian staff, premises, and operations had been blatantly disregarded since the war began, a sentence that has needed updating so many times it has stopped sounding like news. The children killed this week have names: Bana, six, and Lana, twelve, in an airstrike on Beit Lahia. Wafaa, eight, in Gaza City. Saadi, three, and Obaida, nine, by gunfire. Hilal, fourteen, who died of his injuries days after the strike that caused them. Since the truce took effect, at least 1,372 Palestinians have been killed and 4,659 wounded. Since the war itself began, the toll runs past 74,000 dead and 174,000 wounded, across a strip of land the UN estimates is ninety percent destroyed. On the sixteenth of September, the Trump administration informed Congress of a $2.8 billion sale to Israel: forty thousand two-thousand-pound bombs, Mk84s and BLU-117s, financed through the foreign military financing programme, meaning American taxpayers cover the bill. These are the same bombs whose delivery the Biden administration put on hold two years ago, specifically because of the mass-casualty risk they posed to Gaza’s civilian population. That hold is gone. This sale follows $6.67 billion in arms approved in January and nearly $3 billion in bombs approved the year before. A government that keeps telling reporters it wants the killing to stop is, in the same week people are dying under a ceasefire it brokered, restocking the exact category of weapon responsible for a share of that killing, and doing it with public money. Reconstruction, meanwhile, is nowhere. Nickolay Mladenov, the Board of Peace’s high representative for Gaza, said on the seventh of September that the process is still far from starting, that Israeli troops haven’t fully withdrawn, and that the roughly seven billion dollars pledged in late August isn’t enough to move past the ceasefire’s first stage. Reconstruction was always conditioned on a withdrawal that keeps not happening, set entirely by the same government that just bought forty thousand more bombs. Both halves are the same policy: the siege runs on one clock, and reconstruction waits on a second clock that answers to it. I don’t have a lever that reaches the Board of Peace, and neither does anyone reading this from outside a blockade that decides who gets to eat, sleep indoors, or bury their dead intact. 1,587 words 7–10 minutes ## Survival Cannot Wait for The Next Allocation On 6 September 2026, Anak Krakatau’s eruption disrupted eight Indonesian airports and interrupted schooling and fishing. I live in this country. When I read that work has stopped, I want the conversation to follow the people whose income depended on doing it. What happens to the next meal? Who covers the expense of getting somewhere safer? Those questions belong beside the operational updates, because an instruction to suspend ordinary life has to come with the means to keep living. On 8 September, BNPB official Rustian reported 1,730 disasters across Indonesia through 7 September, with 111,533 homes damaged. The scale makes any demand for individual preparedness inadequate on its own. A household can make plans, but a plan does not supply replacement housing or restore an income. As a disabled person, I also want support organised around people’s actual capacities. Someone who cannot easily leave home still has a claim to safety; the effort required to reach them belongs in the collective response. The funding details matter. BNPB requested another Rp5.67 trillion in emergency funds on 8 September; it had already received Rp4.62 trillion, alongside roughly Rp1.08 trillion in regular funding. Rustian maintained that national disaster funding remained adequate. An allocation still has to become something a person can use. My demand is for public responsibility measured by whether support reaches people while they need it, and whether they have a say in what that support provides. Asking those questions should be part of our response to any official assurance. I have no intention of praising communities for absorbing costs that public provision should cover. I want us able to help one another without exhausting the same people each time, which requires confronting the capitalist arrangement that makes access to necessities depend on purchasing power. Mutual aid can meet an immediate need while we demand the resources and collective control required to stop reproducing it. The contribution and the demand can happen together. Nobody should have to remain hungry to preserve the purity of somebody else’s structural analysis. And I refuse to let that responsibility stop at Indonesia’s borders. People seeking support in Palestine or rural Texas, and those surviving the consequences of the war on Iran, all belong within the same commitment to a life they can direct themselves. Anti-imperialism requires opposition to state and imperial power wherever it constrains that possibility; it also requires material relationships among people living under those conditions. We can build those relationships through sustained redistribution, without asking one population to postpone its needs until another has recovered.
