i know scientific research is in a hard spot right now, but someone really needs to do a crytography phd on the unreasonable effectiveness of securing plaintext against marxists by calling it anarchist theory

dont have to worry nearly as much about efforts to rebuild getting scuttled if you have other mechanisms to stop them doing bad stuff beyond contesting the state through elections

this is why one of my dark horse predictions is that we'll see the rise of "activist liberals", people committed to liberal aspirations who recognize that to get what they want they'll have to get serious about acting outside formal institutions and structures

now in my defense i spent year having suicidal thoughts daily. i had to adjust from that but i am getting to the point where if i am serious about being an intellectual, i need to be honest about where i stand with those around me

i've hidden the full scope of my beliefs in person. people dont know im not just opposed to parts of eg marxism but fundamentally think core assumptions are wrong and hold back any serious anticapitalism and i dont want to rock the boat and call into question friendships

a big part of this is that i was a nerdy kid who never dealt with conflict well growing up, who then spent their late teens and twenties dealing with an intense chronic health which made emotional regulation hard and i only started working on that properly in like 2022

it's funny that despite calling my website url "wedontagree" (in anticipation of me writing a book titled We Don't Agree on Capitalism which im still planning on eventually writing) only like 2 of people who've met me in australia actually know of my online writing i am conflict avoidant irl

at fnb and a bunch of teens come up and go "free food? like communism!" when we explain our deal an hour later and a guy who lived in a socialist state in eastern europe comes by and says "communism is when the government is corrupt! they never would have let people give away free food like this!"

there's a long history of working class self help going all the way back to the eponymous book by samuel smiles. one of the benefits of being in a functioning activist space is that it encourages people to get their shit together. i dont think we should shy away from that

100%. if you listen to people who are casual fans of jordan peterson or andrew tate, they frequently defend them on the grounds that they helped inspire them to take responsibility for themselves i think they are sincere!

99.9% of what motivates reactionary politics is wrong however i can sympathise who turn to the right out of a Nietzscheian desire for greatness and heroism in an apathetic society i think they could potentially be persuaded to move toward a sincere radicalism this is an effort to do exactly that

I generally focus my attention on intra-anarchist theoretical disputes, but posting on Bluesky will send hordes of liberal sealions into your mentions. So I wrote a thing for them on the unique speech constraints anarchists face in political "debate": humaniterations.net/2026/09/19/a...

meditations on moloch is a favorite for a reason, but its popularity is a consequence of people not doing good intros to game theory and scotts conclusion to the problem – build the ai god to solve all the coordinations problems – has obvious parallels to aspirations around central planning

ok but scott alexander almost got convinced of central planning after reading red plenty, if marxism didn't get so thoroughly associated with the humanities and economic planning was a serious research program "abolish the value form" would be a camp within EA

i admit to having a material interest in this line of argument bc im training to become an electrician, but i think that cheap electrotech is part of any solution that isn't primitivism that means there's an implicit popular front between eco direct actionists and green capitalists

in australia our center-right party lost hard trying to sell us on nuclear power in the last election and then mining billionaire gina rinehart switched from supporting them to the far-right certainly not the only factor - i believe individual psychology matters - but money definitely helps

margret asserts that parts of the right aren't deniers and long for the crueler world that global warming will bring. there's certainly some truth there, but i also wonder how much of it is a consequence of fossil fuel interests finally having meaningful market competition in the form of renewables

Every day it seems we have some version of The Discourse About Bluesky Community Values, Norms, and Tone. And I agree that this place has too much weight towards communities that tend to bring toxic norms and tone. The solution is likely to be private data (soon) and private communities (also soon).

the truth of the matter is that the reason marxists have to claim these norms have strategic value is horizontalist and anarchist efforts normalized them on the left and if you go against them you face sanction so it turns out a minority of moralists really can change the world
0131
Mutual A @mutual-a.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
you can argue that in the long run these fights are ultimately necessary for proletarian revolution, but its hard to draw a straightforward causal chain between the two after all, they weren't necessary for the prior revolutions that marxists appeal to!

they lose out materially, they have to confront their complicity in a system of oppression and they face potential community backlash there's the inherent value in treating your partner as a end in themselves, rather than as a means, but thats a moralistic reason to do the work

why should a unionized worker male give up the patriarchal position they enjoy within the household bc their wife faces restrictions on employment? (Forging Democracy, Geoff Eley)

Mutual A @mutual-a.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
any honest look at history shows this to be false, the coalition of the broader working class is one of constant internal tension and contradiction (to name just one, just look at the history of the left on basic feminist issues)
290
Mutual A @mutual-a.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
all this stems from collectivist assumptions – there really is something solid to the concept of the "working class" such that it could become a coherent collective subject that will, thanks to its interests, fight for them over other concerns
180
Mutual A @mutual-a.bsky.social · 28/08/2026
now its true that some of this is a consequence of these norms being shallowly adopted by left-liberals, but also even if it didn't have that baggage it would still be grating eg see research on how people simultaneously see vegetarians/vegans as more moral/caring yet also as less tolerant
