We went to the pumpkin patch this morning. Found a lot of fun and funky pumpkins. Didn't bring home a single "normal" pumpkin.
It's a selfie of me! I'm holding a light yellow pumpkin that's covered in warts. I'm wearing a ridiculous jack-o'-lantern T-shirt but instead of a mouth it just has a crazy handlebar moustache

This morning I was having a dream where I couldn't remember the name of the band that sang that song "Fly" back in the 90s. Then I woke up, and resumed what I was doing in the dream (which I think is a first? Oh wait, peeing dreams). Anyway, I finally remembered. musiccloud.io/6gbEN_wZ […]

MARANATHA is a band I came across in January, when they had just released 2 songs. Now they've released an entire album and it's really good. The genre is like electronica tinged heavy rock/metal with some epic soundtrack mixed in. Definitely influenced by Sleep Token but not as heavy/esoteric […]

@spikybaddie you can reduce the perception of sweetness by adding bitterness, maybe dose it with a bit of strongly brewed tea until it's somewhere you prefer. That won't reduce the amount of sugar you're consuming, obviously, but might make it more palatable for you. As far as making it […]

So I cut all of the flowering branches off of the larger central bines. This should be more manageable and will hopefully fit along with the immersion chiller.

@ambientspace Backsweetend it was just alright. It's not boozy tasting which was a little surprising, but didn't really have a ton of other flavor either. This is the highest I've pushed this yeast. Now I kinda want to find the upper limit of this stuff, lol.

@ambientspace right?? I added a bunch of sugar and a little acid to the sample and that made it drinkable... I'll probably end up feeding this to the still. Pretty crazy to get that much abv out of wild yeast though...

If any winemaker tells you that their process is sanitary, they're lying to you. Grapes grow in a field, there's bugs on them when they're harvested. It's impossible to keep fruit flies away from the action. I do this by hand so it's certainly worse for me […] [Original post on mastodon.social]

TAKE YOUR BALLOTS TO A DROP BOX THIS NOVEMBER. Don't use a mailbox. Use a ballot drop box, because the US postal service is _already_ fucking with ballots. This is not a guess, theory, or extrapolation, this is an _observed fact_. Here's the Thurston […] [Original post on mastodon.murkworks.net]
The Problem with Mail Delivery

By law, we must certify the election by a specific deadline. For the primary, that date was August 18, 2026, two weeks after Election Day. Any ballot that arrives after this date cannot be counted, even if it was mailed on time.

We are seeing two main problems with the post office:

* Slow Mail: Many people mailed their ballots well before Election Day, but the ballots sat in post office sorting centers for weeks. In one case, a ballot was mailed in late July but didn't reach our office until after the August 18 deadline. It took 19 days to arrive, so it could not be counted.

* Ballots sent Between Counties: In Washington State, you can drop your ballot into any official drop box in the state. Other counties collect those ballots and mail them back to us using USPS Priority Mail. In the past, this worked well. But this year, mail sent on August 5 didn't reach us until August 24, six days after the deadline.

So far, our office has received 70 valid ballots that arrived after the certification deadline. This has never happened before, and it means those votes could not be counted. One ballot took 19 days to reach us.

What We Are Doing for November

No voter should lose their vote when they’ve followed every rule.

To fix this for the November election, we will no longer rely on the post office to send ballots between counties. Instead, our team will personally drive to neighboring counties to pick up and hand-deliver these ballots ourselves. Even though this costs extra money and time, it is necessary to make sure every vote counts.
