Public executions will continue until Trump is awarded the Peace Prize.

Point of order, I don't think Schmitt confused "Hawks" with "Hawkeyes" -- I think he just saw basketball mentioned, looked up only NBA games for that date, and saw the Hawks game was the only one. Still a grandstanding dipshit though.

The writer of the first song in history was probably unpopular, as it would get stuck in people's heads and there was no other song to replace it.

The moment Richard Dawkins jumped the shark. He was a fantastic science writer who decided to become a b-grade public philosopher. I say that as a confirmed atheist too. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10...

The camera operators on The Office were suspiciously good at always getting the key shot. I have a working theory that the whole thing was faked.

I'm glad we're not in the days of songs by old men lusting after underage little girls anymore. There were so many of them. I just came across "Art Lover" by The Kinks, and just *ick*.

Wow, we waited seven years for the Up series supposed final episode (70 Up), and it was all recap with a few scraps of new content thrown in, and minimal clarity on what's now happening for these people. Most of the players seemed to get just a few seconds. What a big disappointment.

After posting this, I thought wow, I'm going to regret posting such nonsense. Now 3 weeks later and OpenAI is claiming to have the Navier-Stokes problem solved, with a Lean proof and all. Now I'm wondering how quickly all the Millennial problems will fall.

#birdoftheday #heronsandegrets with a messed up story. Mom had died an hour before, in the room where I was standing when this green heron appeared. (Dad had died only a month prior.) An hour later, I got a call from my wife saying please come, MY mother is dying. She did, 3 days later.

#birdoftheday #heronsandegrets And you thought egrets were stealth hunters. Reddish egrets are like "omg fish" and run their fool heads off. It's a riot. 10/10 must see if you get the chance.

All these little kids who can shred Metallica (etc) on guitar at a young age are probably irreparably damaged for life, taste-wise.

The day I fully accepted that there are smarter people than me was the day someone posted a version of that Rick Astley song, that they claimed sped up every time he says "never". So I watched it, but then IT NEVER DID. My hat is still off to them.

Use "floundering" when you want to mean "struggling clumsily". Use "foundering" only when you want to correct someone for using "floundering".

In mathematics, I am but a dilettante, but I just get the feeling that the Riemann Hypothesis is going to fall soon. AI lately seems to be mostly resolving negatives, and as RH is likely positive, it's not as easy. But you know some formidable firepower is being thrown at it, and by competing teams.

Of course that's how you would say it, but it still made me laugh the first time seeing it in German.

When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, is probably still wrong, and the true thing is something you just haven't considered yet.

I'm a nut about having backups upon backups of all my critical work, but while doing a folder restructure I got extra paranoid and tried to copy some critical code somewhere safe using "cp -r". Only I typed "rm -r", and then learned it somehow wasn't backed up. Luckily there was a .git dir left.

I kind of picture Banach and Tarski being like, "Should we publish this?" "I don't know, should we?" "Let's put your name first" "No, I insist, your name first".

I'm getting relentless targeted with this ad; otherwise I wouldn't comment on it. But I just find it to be Clippy-level of embarrassing. If their IBM Bob AI made these graphics, it needs a lot of work.

"Lean on me When you're not strong And I'll be your friend I'll help you carry on" Awww, isn't that a sweet gesture of love. "For it won't be long Til I'm gonna need Somebody to lean on" Oh. I see.

Apparently, all World Cup commercials are required to feature a commentator who sounds like he's calling a match but his words actually also apply to some mundane product footage. Either that or a soccer ball that appears to be kicked around the world via camera cuts. Some fresh ideas are needed.

I imagine Lindsey Graham's last words were something like, "I can die now, if you want, if you think it'll be a useful distraction...?"
000
Mark Schnitzius @mustermark.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
Contrary to some takes I've seen going around, Lindsey Graham dying might be like getting a free appetizer because the main meal is taking so long, but Mitch McConnell dying will be the same.

Mark Schnitzius @mustermark.bsky.social · 12/07/2026
You can't keep a good man down, which is why it's so easy to keep Mitch McConnell's condition a secret.

Erling Haaland is riding such a tidal wave of public adoration right now that I'm half expecting him to crash out in a scandal of some sort. I blame my jadedness on too many recent examples. Let's I hope I'm wrong.

I had successfully avoided that shit-ass Life Is A Highway song for years by moving overseas. (Which is reason enough to leave the USA.). But now I have to hear it two or three times a game watching the World Cup.

People scoff, but thus far there have been zero deaths in the World Cup due to inadequate hydration.
