🗣 Blabbering rando, still not shutting up: "That's why I'm voting for Reagan. He'll have a generational impact on this country." ⏳️ Time traveler: [Involuntarily lets out a screech.]

⏳️ Time traveler, stuck the 1980's: [Tries desperately not to laugh and cry hysterically at the same time.] 🗣Blabbering rando who won't shut up: "...licans are the party of national defense, strong foreign policy, fiscal restraint, and family values."

Fwiw, the term "spirtual warfare" has a specific, insidious meaning for these folks. I forget offhand, but it's discussed in Tal Levin's book, "Wild Faith," if you haven't read it, yet.

Also, when you realize that AI is just an autocomplete powered by a bunch of fancy math (e.g. vector embeddings, next token prediction, etc.) the term seems even more ridiculous.

Actually, I should have asked what the exam was. Celebration probably differs between passing your comps versus, idk, a chapter 1 exam from a textbook.

Congrats! Not saying it would appeal to a wide audience, but for me, the idea of a nap and/or vegging on some Star Trek reruns to unwind is probably what I'd do.

Reminds me of Asimov's short story, "The Feeling of Power." I found a copy of it here, page 75. It's 77 if you're going by the pdf page counter. s3.us-west-1.wasabisys.com/luminist/EB/...

Ah, got it. That makes sense. A decent jacket should get you through the next month or two, but it's not a bad idea to have a winter coat ready to go if you don't have one already. Dress in layers, and steer into the skid. Enjoy!

Fortunately, I at least have control over my own unit's HVAC. When I moved in, I replaced the ancient a/c and gas furnace with a Daikin heat pump. Never content, I've read about research on elastocaloric heat pumps and hope that it's commercially viable by the time the system is due for replacement.

God, I would love for my condo to switch to geothermal for the efficiency, but somehow I don't think that's ever going to happen. For one thing, we've limited space around us to dig. And as complex as the process is, I wouldn't trust them to get it done right.

As an adult who has been up since 5:30 this morning, "bedtime" on it's own sounds appealing, but even I understand the emotional appeal of "story and snuggle" and would choose that, even as an adult. ☺️

ok gonna get Sincere(TM) here for a second There's a lot of doomerism about how "We're all cooked" because "The GOP is trying to steal our votes." So here's the true story of how the GOP tried to steal our votes here in NC and FAILED. TWICE. Ballot fraud isn't final. It gets stopped all the time.

Screenshot from the movie, "I Am Legend." Will Smith is in the foreground, hunched over. In the background is the sign of a gas station with prices listed as regular $6.63 special $6.87, sup+ $6.95.

I remember that in Seattle, near Pike Place, there's a gum wall. Totally covered in dried gum people stuck on the wall. Anyway, that just came to mind. You know, in case folks needed to take care of their chewing gum before entering museums.

If a person were doing something that involves pattern recognition or summarization, perhaps it's a useful tool, but if one needed something that actually understood the underlying concepts of math in order to address a problem? Yeah, no.

If a student answered 2 + 2 = 4 because they saw others say 2 + 2 = 4, do we claim that student understands the "why," enabling them to address similar questions, or are they just memorizing that 2 and 2 seen together are often associated with 4?
