Ours is earlier because we have so more to be thankful for, so we need to start sooner or we won't get done before the Christmas holidays.

UPS and other courier companies were using pedi-delivery vehicles in the city centre when I was there in 2019, like a cross between a pedicab and a cube van. Probably e-assist now.

@thewaroncars.bsky.social - seems an appropriate choice of book to take on a 3-week cycling tour of SW England. Greetings from sunny Bristol, and thanks for some good reading.

Is there a website or something where I can find out how to log in to the website I need to log into in order to log into the website I need to log into? 'Cause there's another site I need to log into, but it won't admit me until I log into another website to confirm that I'm allowed to log into it.

I had a Smart car for a decade, hauled all kinds of things around. I did a Costco run once, and a small crowd gathered to watch - and then applaud - as I packed two full carts into that car. Had a trailer hitch for larger loads. I once delivered a 17' canoe to a customer, strapped to the roof.

So, do the resources allocated to the involuntary treatment system end up *increasing* the wait times for the more effective voluntary treatment? Never mind. I think I already know the answer...

Sadly, no matter how demonstrably stupid that statement / question was, there are far too many people who will agree with it, and vote for her because of it.

Well, sure, but what can ew do about it? I mean, it's a car, so... Some countries have sacred cows roaming around, getting in everybody's way, causing property damage and injuries, even deaths, and there's nothing you can do because they're sacred cows. We have sacred cars.

Well, they are NASCAR fans, after all, where the crashes are the whole point. Basically, they fail to distinguish between "transportation" and "entertainment." It's ALL entertainment to them.

He would probably describe himself as "the greatest useful idiot. People are saying they've never seen an idiot as useful as me. They can't believe how useful an idiot I am." And for once, he'd be right.

If he was a Russian asset, what exactly would he be doing different? I can't think of anything, except perhaps making some effort not to be quite so obvious about it. That's the part that convinces me he isn't, because it's so transparent. So he's not an asset, just the world's most useful idiot.

For sure. I like that it's a quick and simple way to lay out different ideas to get a sense of what they would look like. And it's also a quick and simple way to illustrate to decision-makers just exactly how useless paint is. Win-win :-)

There's a place for cars, too. But if they're being used carelessly - and 1.5 million annual deaths worldwide shows that yes, they are - there needs to be change. Maybe some kind of buy-back program to get them off the streets.

@parkingreform.org I've tried a few times to find examples of cities/towns that have repealed their parking mandates and then later reinstated them. I can't find any. Do you know of any? Any at all?

This list includes Shark Fins. Why on Earth are we tariffing shark fins? I thought that whole trade was illegal? We don't tariff ivory at the border - we seize it and destroy it.

It's so bizarre, this man who has to have his name on absolutely everything, even going so far as to put his name on a memorial to a murder victim. That's got to be in the DSM somewhere, right? And if it isn't, it soon will be, and I know whose name they'll put on it.

Awesome. May you enjoy Scotland as much as I did. One suggestion: there is a food truck (I think it's actually a shipping container?) on the docks in Oban that serves langoustines (think jumbo prawns but better) that apparently is not to be missed. I have it on my to-do list for next spring.

1 and 2 are both absolute, hard-line deal-breakers, and would be for any country, not just Canada. I'm convinced the administration decided they didn't want a deal so they tossed in a handful of poison pills knowing we would have to walk away. If so, fuck'em. In fact, fuck'em regardless.

And you're right to do so. But I'm also perfectly happy to let the people of Gander represent all of us if it simplifies the delivery of the message. They did such an amazing job they deserve the accolades.

Vancouver took people in also, but the numbers were a blip in a metropolitan population of 2.5 or 3 million, and the vast majority scarcely even noticed the influx. In Gander, absolutely everybody was directly involved. 2/2

That's true, but the situation in Gander was unique. The population increased 50% in a few hours, with no warning. It really was an extraordinary response to an extraordinary circumstance, and it is deservedly spotlighted. 1/2

Where in Scotland you headed? Best vacation of my life was a 4-week cycling trip there a few years back. Probably spending a few days in Edinburgh late-September, and planning another cycling trip for spring - Outer Hebrides / Skye / Glen Coe...

This isn't the first time the USA has placed 50% tariffs on Canada. In 1890, the USA's Tariff Act was touted as a way to build up American industry, but the true goal was forcing the annexation of Canada. It backfired and made Canada stronger. This is the story. 📸 LoC 🧵1/10
Political cartoon criticizing the Republican platform for favoring untaxed whiskey (jug labeled "Untaxed Whiskey 20¢ Gal.") while presenting war‑taxed common cloth with an 89% tariff, highlighting perceived hypocrisy.

I might have to start attending sporting events, solely for the purpose of booing the US anthem and then leaving. 'Cause I don't really care about the sports that much, but booing the US anthem is something I think I could really get behind.

Not afraid so much as simply refusing. I've been planning flights for a couple of trips to Europe this fall and next spring, and I won't consider any flights that involve even a "touch-and-go" stop at any US airport. I just do not want to be there.
