A lovely morning for a trip to Perth and Pictcon to celebrate Scottish genre writing. Just as soon as I can feel my fingers again.
An empty main road through trees under a deep blue dawn sky. The horizon is an orange glow.

It's not every week (or any, normally) that I receive paperbacks of two books I've got a story in, never mind that I've got my name on the front so, if you'll excuse me, let me just point and engage smug mode.
Two books. On the left Fall into Fantasy 2026 edition. On the right Haverin.

An "advantage" of being a layabout wastrel unemployed person is that I've just test driven my tablet for Friday's book launch as my breakfast.

Should anyone wish to find out how I'm doing you can use the AJ Bell Great Run app and my number. If you want to come encourage, tell me in advance as I won't have my glasses on so probably won't spot you.

Morning, gone in a gallivant. This morning is quite fancy, the rest of the weekend will be less so.
The main street of Inverary. Two rows of two storey Georgian buildings, pained in Black nd White running up to a church in the centre.A big, BIG, fireplace with ornate scrollwork on the wooden surround and a mirror in the centre above the cast iron grate. There are corner seats attached.

Haverin copies for sale at Fantasycon have arrived! Huzzah, that's a huge weight off my mind. Now to just worry I didn't order enough.
An open cardboard box filled with paperback copies of Haverin, a green coloured book with a woman and her cat on the front.

Look! Look at this beautiful thing! #CoverReveal alert! Behold the cover art for our new anthology Haverin, designed by our own Jenni Coutts. Look carefully and you'll spot some sneaky clues to the tales inside. Celebrating 40 years of the GSFWC, #Haverin is […] [Original post on mastodon.scot]
The cover of Haverin, the GSFWC anthology, which features a red-haired girl reading while surrounded by books and a cat in a green space. Text reads: Featuring: Neil Williamson, E.M. Faulds, Christopher Caldwell, Eliza Chan and many more. Haverin, Edited by Brian M. Milton, Peter Morrison and Heather Valentine. The back of the cover of Haverin, continuing the green landscape dotted with various creatures, including a robot head, lion, and a pie. Text reads: Haverin, Scots, Verb: Talking in a foolish or trivial manner, speaking nonsense. Glaswegians enjoy a bit of haverin and few enjoy it more than the Glasgow SF Writers' Circle have for the last forty years, following many hard critique sessions with a bit of a haver in the pub. This anthology is a celebration of those forty years, with more than forty stories of Fantasy, Science and the Odd from members past and present. Join us on this fantastical journey, turning havers into stories and revelling in the full range of writing that has come out of the Circle since 1986.

Weekend running weather update has once again been gazumped by wildlife. It's a heron! Just hanging about on the White Cart.

The council have put up some new signage round us which, as my wife points out, may be unfortunately correct.
A red triangle showing an elderly couple. Underneath, a sign saying "Elderly people". Underneath again, a sign saying "Crematorium" with an arrow pointing ahead which, unfortunately, points directly at the elderly people signs.

Still in Fife. Being an idiot Scot it's taken me too long to remember that blue skies mean the big light in the sky is burny. Still, means the sea is almost not baltic for a swim.
The town of Pittenweem, as seen from the end of the harbour wall. Small, old, higgeldy piggeldy houses, under a blue sky.

We've gone to Fife, got rained on and seen a cave. A proper weekend away.
A view through two storey buildings, down a narrow road, to a small harbour under a heavy grey sky.Inside a low roofed cave. It is lit by electric light with a flagstone floor and has clearly been formed by water erosion. There is a small stone alter in the mouth of a sub-section of the cave with a picture and a vase of flowers on it

Down, but not out.
A tree that has blown over in a park. The root end has lifted up to show a lack of them. There is still a connection into the ground. The branches are, however, still green with new spring leaves, showing it still has some roots and life.

Morning all from a very Glasgow sort of day.
A view across a road. On the right, an old pub building, currently being redeveloped and so surrounded by porta cabins. On the left, trees.
