A lovely morning for a trip to Perth and Pictcon to celebrate Scottish genre writing. Just as soon as I can feel my fingers again.
An empty main road through trees under a deep blue dawn sky. The horizon is an orange glow.

It's not every week (or any, normally) that I receive paperbacks of two books I've got a story in, never mind that I've got my name on the front so, if you'll excuse me, let me just point and engage smug mode.
Two books. On the left Fall into Fantasy 2026 edition. On the right Haverin.

Back home from an excellent Fantasycon and I find that non-stop October is still going. Thus two* things, second thing first. I've done another blog post on Haverin, this time on what is in it. Will I accidentally admit to my favourite 'child' or just waffle on about a personal milestone?

It's Haverin launch day! Available on the big river from now and we're having our first launch event at Fantasycon this evening. I'll do another blog and sing its praises soon, once this weekend is out of the way. www.amazon.co.uk/Haverin-years-Glas…

An "advantage" of being a layabout wastrel unemployed person is that I've just test driven my tablet for Friday's book launch as my breakfast.
A bowl full of pieces of tablet, golden chunks of sugar based sweets.

A last wee reminder that I'm running the Glasgow Half Marathon this Sunday and you can sponsor me here: www.totalgiving.co.uk/mypage/brianh… Completed my last pre-run shuffle this morning round the mean streets of Pollok. Let's hope I can step up for the big one on Sunday.

RE: mastodon.scot/@munchkinstein/117325… It's October, the month of far too many things. For a reminder of the fun ones, book launches, story publications and even a stupid long run, see these posts.

Morning, gone in a gallivant. This morning is quite fancy, the rest of the weekend will be less so.
The main street of Inverary. Two rows of two storey Georgian buildings, pained in Black nd White running up to a church in the centre.A big, BIG, fireplace with ornate scrollwork on the wooden surround and a mirror in the centre above the cast iron grate. There are corner seats attached.

Luckily I have nothing going on at the moment and so can fully appreciate that I have a new story out! It's my story of holiday homers on a wee island over-reacting to some standard fae nonsense and is in the anthology Fall into Fantasy 2026. Kindle link here […]

Very much the sort of day where I get to remember where the Victorians buried the drainage access hatch in my garden. On the plus side, not only got to buy a drain unblocking tool, but used it effectively.

Haverin copies for sale at Fantasycon have arrived! Huzzah, that's a huge weight off my mind. Now to just worry I didn't order enough.

Thanks to the unique way my house is built the majority of my sockets have stopped working, All the important stuff, like the freezer, kettle and heating, are fine, but I've had to move the cat's automatic feeder and this is causing possibly more grief than engaging an electrician.

The cover of Haverin, the GSFWC anthology, which features a red-haired girl reading while surrounded by books and a cat in a green space. Text reads: Featuring: Neil Williamson, E.M. Faulds, Christopher Caldwell, Eliza Chan and many more. Haverin, Edited by Brian M. Milton, Peter Morrison and Heather Valentine. The back of the cover of Haverin, continuing the green landscape dotted with various creatures, including a robot head, lion, and a pie. Text reads: Haverin, Scots, Verb: Talking in a foolish or trivial manner, speaking nonsense. Glaswegians enjoy a bit of haverin and few enjoy it more than the Glasgow SF Writers' Circle have for the last forty years, following many hard critique sessions with a bit of a haver in the pub. This anthology is a celebration of those forty years, with more than forty stories of Fantasy, Science and the Odd from members past and present. Join us on this fantastical journey, turning havers into stories and revelling in the full range of writing that has come out of the Circle since 1986.

Just finished watching the Serafinowicz Tick series. As stupid as I remember, but more depth to it's satire than earlier versions (which I also love). The inclusion of Valerie Curry as Arthur's sister, Dot, subsequently in The Boys, does allow for some very dark "what happens next" fan fiction.

Never saw the point of LinkedIn but, now that I need a job, I'm trying hard. When I configure it to say I'm looking for permanent work in Glasgow and four allegedly separate recruiters contact me through it in one day to ask me about the same contracting role in Manchester, I lose faith once more.

Hello all. As you may be aware, I am once again working on an anthology of short stories for the Glasgow SF Writer’s Circle. Two years ago I was a junior part of the team who produced Gallus, a collection released to coincide with the Worldcon being in Glasgow. The council have put up some new signage round us which, as my wife points out, may be unfortunately correct.
A red triangle showing an elderly couple. Underneath, a sign saying "Elderly people". Underneath again, a sign saying "Crematorium" with an arrow pointing ahead which, unfortunately, points directly at the elderly people signs.
