I lost this battle long ago. Costco puts up Christmas trees in August. Christmas chocolates are already fighting for shelf space next to Halloween candy in Kroger. I love Christmas, (the spirit of it, not the hot commercial mess and money spending contest it has become) but it belongs in December.

I have a Costco membership, but must shop Sam's for work. The difference is night and day. You see the same employees whenever you go to Costco. Sam's, almost never. Costco has superior meat and produce. Locally, Costco is always crowded, Sam's, almost never. The vibe is just off.

I drive an '06 "release series" xB in Envy Green. I miss bright colors on cars. The choices now are 50 shades of gray, black, white, dark blue and maybe a burgundy if you're lucky. Parking lots full of cars look so boring now.

It's funny, too, because my grandfather absolutely adored Archie Bunker's character despite being the political opposite. He also smoked cigars, wore a white button up shirt and white socks, the same hat and plaid coat, and had a pronounced New England (rather than New York) accent.

My maternal grandfather served in the Navy in the submarine service. He had a lot to say about politics, absolutely hated Republicans. During Watergate, he drove around with a huge sign in the back window of his car that read, "THROW THE BUM OUT!" I can only imagine what he'd say about Trump.

I binged every Trek ever made during lockdown. (At least what was available up until that point.) I wish I had done chronological rather than production order, but I enjoyed it. There were a lot of episodes I had missed or forgotten over the years. TNG is still my favorite.

I never smoked but was around it constantly. My uncle smoked in the car when I was a kid and taught me how to roll cigarettes. My grandfather smoked Dutch Masters cigars. On the rare occasion I smell one I think of him. I think I was on more than one flight as a kid where smoking was permitted.

If you’ve lived in New England at all, of course you know all about NH. Head west though and people don’t even know where it is on a map! Maine, Vermont, MA, sure, but NH is this blank spot. I used to have a lot of family there, so I suppose I take knowledge of The Granite State for granted. /2

Yeah, there’s a reason my grandfather loved his older Camrys. I’m quite happy with our ‘06 xB. It’s pretty simple and keeps on ticking. The family mobile is a ‘20 Subaru Ascent.
